Just read the copy at their website.

Re: Soekris Dam Dac
they used to make a 1704 dac that made lots of sense quite a while back,
i assume they did nothing since because they thought sigma-delta was an insult to audio

i wonder if they called a battery a capacitor would it relieve the fear of marketing batteriesrickmcinnis wrote:
I would think one could safely assume they are not better than the isolation given by the batteries but one can understand that few are willing to market a product with batteries.
see li-ion cap data sheet

min voltage 2.2v
battery phobia is cured

Re: Soekris Dam Dac
That is an excellent suggestion.
Now whether anyone will use it.
It will be interesting to find how long our batteries "last" in the jkeny configuration?
Do you think they will eventually require replacement? Of course, everything eventually needs replacement but could an A123 26650 last as long as an electroyltic capacitor when used as such?

Re: Soekris Dam Dac
The capacitor company will say theres will last much longer in practice who knows but there pretty toughrickmcinnis wrote:That is an excellent suggestion.

Johns dacs are out long time in a myraid of different conditions some been constantly charged some on a cycle and many been abused by been let run low and theres little r no talk of battery failure on forums
I can say ive had cells used as capacitors on floating voltage with linear supplies for up to 3 yrs with no failure so not even the packs that have imbalanced voltage

>5 years & counting. Once the battery is treated correctly (not allowed to discharge & not overcharged) it's durability is >10 years - see hererickmcinnis wrote:That is an excellent suggestion.

And this lifetime is for batteries that are let go low to 2.7V & recharged back to full charge. I would expect that continuous charging of these batteries will mean they last far longer than this maybe >20 years?
AFAIK, The problem with those Li-ion capacitors is that they are just like a battery - they are unlike other capacitors in that they have to be kept charged up to their operating voltage which is between 2.2 & 3.8V - they can't be allowed to go outside this voltage range or they are damaged - so they actually need a battery to keep them charged :)Do you think they will eventually require replacement? Of course, everything eventually needs replacement but could an A123 26650 last as long as an electrolytic capacitor when used as such?
From the PDF:
" Use within the rated voltage (2.2-3.8V)
If over rated voltage is applied, it might cause abnormal current flow, which shorten lifetime, cell heating, leakage and sometimes damage Lithium Ion Capacitor.

Remember me when you have a eureka moment,

The latest developement in battery tech, commercial at least,
These are rated >70% over 3000 charges ( big ones of the same chemistry are rated >10000 charges surpassing anything else by far )
Note that they are 2.4v so you may use them for different purposes.
Someone with equipement could get some and measure them for characteristics and see how they compare with lifepo4.

Thanks, will look into them.rolandpsp wrote:Remember me when you have a eureka moment,

They might be useful for ~5V supply using two in series?
