Best way to Rip?

I know some will argue the merits of listening versus data, but I care about how it sounds, not how the bits look.

In the past, I've done my own version of blind testing with files that were recorded with different means. Since my memory is not that good, I'm able to forget which file is which :)
Then I listen, and see if I can tell a difference.

Can't get an nLited XP to install. Wonder if there is a problem with the UEFI bios of new boards?

Would try a full install if I had remembered to bring the disk.

Also hoping I just need to clean the drive I was using.

Well,

I figured out why I could not get XP to install. I still had SATA configuration as AHCI and XP has no idea what that is. Changed to IDE and all went in just fine.

With this install I have a C folder size of 550 mB. Including dBPoweramp and cMP.

I use cMP to disable EXPLORER and the RIPPING key is directed to dBPoweramp.

Did almost all of the cics optimizations. Still learning what dBPoweramp needs to work. Did some registry modifications, easy simple ones, changing Permissions and getting rid of ControlSet2 in System.

No power supply mods, using the precursor to the current POWERFLOWER that is highly regarded. I intend to make it a separate machine and will start with the POWERFLOWER there.

I see making a dedicated RIPPING OS. You can make dBPoweramp the shell, there is no need to use cMP as an intervening step but I have not done that, yet. When you turn the thing on it will go directly to dBPoweramp and that will be all it can do.

First rips (and I know all of this is suspect so take it with seven grains of salt) seem to give a more dynamic sound. Did not notice any better "sound" but there seems to be more life.

I cannot connect to the internet with this OS and I really do not want to. I was thinking ACCURATE RIP only tells you if your CD is OK, not as if it corrects anything so BIG DEAL! With the SDTrans it is next to impossible to read the screen and it scrolls so slowly who wants to stand there long enough to see what it says so no song titles is not a loss for me.

Some might find this insurmountable but I have never been comfortable with a "music computer" connected to the internet.

dBPoweramp seems to rip really fast and I wonder if it is more dependent on ACCURATE RIP than EAC? I need to find out if EAC detects READ errors on its own or is also dependent on ACCURATE RIP to tell it there was an error.

I did rip a CD that I know has problems and there was the very occasional sound like an LP tick. I can live with that.

I am always looking for a place for XP and maybe one has been found.

If you have an old copy laying about: use nLite so you can slipstream in SP3 if you plan on using dBPoweramp. I think EAC requires NET FRAMEWORK 3.5 - that could be a downside. You can disable Windows File Protection with nLite and with that out of the way you can just about anything you want to XP. First thing to do is to substitute Minlogon for Winlogon. I am still finding out what needs to be kept in XP for it to work.

With cMP this ia all I left in: DRIVERS
IBM PS/2 TrackPoint (for obvious reasons) That reason is to use PS2 for keyboard and mouse.

Going to try this one tonight, Yesterday's version had much more left in.

Not using USB for anything with this RIPPING OS so no need to retain it. At least, I hope not.

After ripping with this OS one must move the drive to another machine for copying to the SD card or to use as a music drive in your computer based machine.

Another thing: use FAT32 for formatting the OS disk.

That is one very interesting device.

I wish it was not quite as expensive as it is. It does seem to be worth it.

I wonder if it will be offered for sale in the US instead of requiring shipping from Japan?

I like the idea that it recognizes errors by itself - would seem to negate the need for ACCURATERIP.

But I do think there is more to do than just a REALLY good reader.

I had one of those YAMAHA CRW-F1 but it died a premature death so I was not very impressed with it.
