There are pictures from the link you posted with the inside of the box and the compound found inside.
The real question is what exactly is that compound and that can't be determined by eye!
Yes but you would be taking a sample to your local laboratory or foundry to identify product!!!
Think of it as a great sacrifice for the rest of us to enter the world of tellus for peanuts

Adam am I reading that teflon cotton thing above right? You have silver wired connected to a lump of granite? Now it is wrapped in cotton?

BTW powering on my 63's means reboot of my pc. White fuzzy screen so some sort of earth or grounding etc interferes with PC. Power up sequence is always the rest of the kit first then the PC. I know you were having similar issues. Will be curious if all this grounding solves it.
I am hoping when I get the pc rebuild into the Lampi big case I can cure that problem but very doubtful it will succeed

Sorry Tony, but I have no hart to drill into it and I'm sure that taking those samples to the lab, for test, would not be cheap!

In the pictures I tried to show how I wrapped one the ground wire step by step........and it happen to be on the marble table! :)
Of course that the wires are connected between Tellus and my PC box. Same silver/Teflon wires, just one extra wrapped in cotton+Teflon tape and the other is not.
Like I said, the difference was big in favor of the cotton wrapped ground wire.

About your PC problem, that looks more like a clock problem.......probably ground problem?! Very tricky waters and I'm a bad swimmer!
I never had ground problem of any kind in my system. No hum or any other troubles!
I bought this Tellus after listening in my friend system and liked the improvements. I don't think that Tellus will cure the problem that you have or any other real ground problems.
Tellus is more like earth than ground.

Ah Think of the greater good:), A lab technician into hifi will appear at some point and ride to the rescue.
Doh! re: silver/teflon but I can excuse myself as you have previous with strange mods!

Yes it is probably the clocks and maybe if I went at it (not a chance!) and improved the ground or changed the arrangement maybe all would be ok. But then it could just be the power from the batteries is slightly too high or low but money is on the grounding. Must try it on the regenerator again but I think I did that already and regardless if I plug/turn something 'dirty' on including ESL63's the pc gets the wozzy screen.

The battery implementation is fraught with connection issues. I put an extra 12v battery on to my other pc and thought I had wired it correctly. But failed with one connnection which I ran from linear supply back to one battery. I also had the supply for the 24pin connected to the Maplin linear supply and the battery was merrily discharging thru the Maplin into the pc. I coped it when I noticed the green light on the motherboard.

i think its about "a change in the gnd environment" brought about by connecting and disconnecting stuff disturbing the peace and harmony

you have to break the circuit between battery and ps and battery and pc for off position
this is not a new phenomenon it is not unworkable

I am bad Nigel but not that bad:) Was just pointing out even in a simple battery set up you have to think out everything and easy to forget a route back to the pc. In my case the bloody soldering iron was also not making life easy. That is another factor for anybody going down this road. Like most jobs unless you have the best tools the task becomes tedious

your soldering iron tips probably fried, and/or your not using enough flux
and you bought a "budget" soldering iron in maplin that probably had 300% markup

hi maybe put a copper pipe in the garden 2 inch is easiest to get cut at an angle like spier then it will bend if you run into something solid and run your earth wire to your hifi socket or block
maybe someone could give you a similar block for experimenting and if you had a double wall socket had 2 mains cables two blocks one cable and block with house earth and the other with earth disconnected in plug using the earth in the garden conected to the block
this would be a cheap experiment to try you would need a post driver and a hose to put water down the pipe

Hiya thanks giant haystacks you did talk about this before and have seen a variety of pro/cons on doing this. I do have an earth rod as it is put in when we got the house rewired. May try that option as you suggest at some point during renovations but as John/Nigel advised above this issue is more than likely due to the external battery supplied clocks and grounds on the PC.
