Great space. Enjoy.
Look forward to seeing and reading about it as things develop.

Re: New Music Room
Very nice space. A few room treatments with bass traps and free standing acoustic panels should take care of any possible resonance problems. Either way you will be able to get the speakers well away from reflective structures which is a great start.
Re: New Music Room
That is basically my plan, corner bass traps a small number of panels and I'd like some diffusion but nothing too over the top/expensive.

GIK have a new, reasonably-priced diffuser product out. I was eyeballing it myself, actually.

Re: New Music Room
Yep, I outfitted my room with GIK bass traps, bass panels and acoustic panels and it definitely evened out the response nicely. Admit I kind of used the salt and pepper method a bit but it still works.
Re: New Music Room
Jasus Simon they are horrible! What about the home made timber lego blocks stuck on a board?Diapason wrote:GIK have a new, reasonably-priced diffuser product out. I was eyeballing it myself, actually.

I have some panels at the side of my speakers and a diy thingy I got from Piotr I believe behind my speakers. Basically they are veneered mdf rectangles with rockwool installed behind perforated hardboard(OK again horrible looking)
Also stuck a nice wall hanging that Ken particularly admires and John Kenny uses when conducting blind tests as diffusion behind the seat.
Not sure if the panels at the side of speakers do anything. Again Anne things they are disgusting and can't understand how I can't hide everything!
Thanks Hififan for the link re room will have to read it
BTW What is wrong with 10ft + ceilings? I feel it helps in my room but is there concerns about resonance?

Re: New Music Room
I actually think they look ok, but then again you've seen my sound treatments!
10ft ceilings not a problem per se, but all the room's measurements being multiples of each other can make standing waves worse. 10 x 20 would be potentially tricky.

Re: New Music Room
I liked the look of them. I especially like the price, there is a similar one of know of (at least looks wise) but it is $400 a panel.
Tony - there is a good video on youtube about DIYing the wood block approach you are talking about. It seems quite easy and he mentions free software that creates a grid for you with the correct block heights and locations. I like the look of those also.
