id imagine thats well out of the price range

they seem to do allot dac, preamp, amp, and speakers all in one
wonder how that would compare to dac / int amp and speakers

whats the difference between neutral/resolving hifi speakers and studio monitors anyway?
quick google search seems to show up a similar amount of bs with studio monitors as is with hifi

id imagine its quite possible to get a new set of studio monitors in this price range that would be easily outperformed analytically by some suitable s/h hifi equipment?

Nigel, many years ago I had a brief listen to a pair of monitors. Not an experience I would want to repeat! Monitors, as the name suggest, focus on the sound. A recording engineer need to hear exactly what is happening in the studio, hence he/she uses monitors. Hi-Fi is about enjoying music not taking it apart. I know which I prefer....

find myself a little confused over the theory of monitors

when i was building or upgrading my pc/dac/amp i always aimed for higher resolution and detail for a more natural/ neutral type of sound as it always sounded more real to me

guess it's down to the old try it and see

on a bit of googling this home studio equipment seem to have little or no regard for things like power supplies, emi/rfi avoidance/protection, noise or any emphasis on timing control

but maybe it doesn't matter for the loudness war ipod generation.... :(

Proper studio monitors should have flat frequency response and go loud. Basically clean, unburstable and rugged enough to deal with whatever's thrown at them. A friend of mine runs a studio and I went once purely to hear his professional ATC monitors in action. They were incredible in many ways, with stupid levels of detail ("what's that noise?" I asked at one point. "Oh, that's the click track playing in the singers headphones during the recording" came the response). I'm not sure I'd like them at home, though.

As for home studio monitors, I have no idea why such a thing would be any different to normal home speakers.

Yeah, mainly cost, with the home stuff priced suitably stratospherically for audiophools!
