OK, both Seán and Don have convinced me to put the Kitajenko Prokofiev cycle on my List!

That is a work that I really like; I must do a listening project on it some time.
It is a lovely performance but listening to it took HUGE effort on my part, it is way outside of my comfort zone I'm afraid. I will have to return to it soon and not let my aversion to religious choral music get the better of me.

LOL!! I thought that you had got over that little "problem" of yours!!
I think that it is a magnificent work; I have nine different versions [including the Herreweghe] of it in my collection.

Rachmaninov: Liturgie De Saint Jean Chrysostome....

This wonderful music is given a really marvellous performance here. The singing in all registers is terrific. The pacing is also just right allowing the devotional aspect of the music to come through. This version comes with a strong recommendation!

It is time to drop into this marvellous set and try the Eighth:

Ludwig van Beethoven
Symphony No. 8

Minnesota Orchestra
Osmo Vänskä conducting.

I have always considered this work a light piece of music and paid it scant attention, however on the advice of young Fergus I have decided to listen to a few performances and see how I like it. The Minnesota's performance is rich in colour and depth, this is a delightful performance, full of joy and good humour and as one might expect from BIS the production values are first class.
