At 4pm, Sandy Burnett takes the G minor sonata BWV 1001 by JS Bach as his subject for this week’s Great Moments in Classical Music.

In the year 1720, Johann Sebastian Bach wrote a collection of six works for solo violin which have since been recognised as one of the greatest achievements of their kind. Sandy Burnett takes one of them – the G minor sonata BWV 1001 – as his subject for this week’s Great Moments in Classical Music.

I have Abbado's six symphony cycle with the CSO and they don't set the world alight for me I'm afraid.

I only have that one work of Tchaikovsky's conducted by Abbado and it was only an average performance Seán so I would not be buying any more.
