From the Zinman and Tonhalle Orchestra Great Symphonies box set:

Richard Strauss
Eine Alpinesinfoine

Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich
David Zinman conducting.

This is a very enjoyable performance of the Strauss Alpine Symphony, the Tonhalle are certainly up to the demands of this piece. That said the HvK BPO recording is still the best in my collection.

And I would be very surprised if it did not remain that way Seán - top of the pile for me too still!

That is a Lovely orchestra with a very fine conductor. Their Tchaikovsky box set on Brilliant Classics is just gorgeous.

Yes indeed Seán, I was always very fond of Ansermet.

Their Tchaikovsky box set on Brilliant Classics is just gorgeous.

I haven't listened to Klemperer's Ninth in such a long time but I do remember enjoying it quite a lot.
