JMR - Jean-Marie Reynaud - Any feedback

Post by sdiesel77 »

Hi Guys,
I was wondering if any of you had or have listened to Jean-Marie Reynaud speakers? I really like the look of the Abscisse model.

Hi Steph, I think Cloneys are stockists. I heard a pair of JMR floorstanders there last year and Noel was keen on them.

Yep... I can see why somebody would be keen on them!!!

Looks like a ribbon tweeter on the top.... is that correct?

All depends on how well it matches with your system.... auditioning is a must.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION:

Frequency response 35 - 25000 Hz
Nominal impedance 4 ohm
Efficiency 91 dB/W/M (2.83 V)
Power handling capacity 100 watts
peak power 200 watts
Recommended power 40 to 250 watts
Dimensions H 45.2’’, D 11.8’’, W 7.9’’
Finish Black mat lacquer, pearly ivory soft touch, pearly anthracite grey soft touch, black soft touch, white high gloss or soft touch
Weight 32 Kg 70.4 lbs

LOUDSPEAKER CABINET:
Tuned triangular transmission line leading to a front laminar event port.
19mm medite material assembled under press to guarantee a completely inert structure. Optimized internal damping.
Rounded edges to limit diffraction effects.
The axial fixation of the woofer to the back of the cabinet allows a controlled tensioning of the cabinet and provides a uniform mechanical effort in between the woofer basket and the baffle, it is drastically improving the transitory pulse response of the system eliminating any vibration or micro move of the magnet core.
Partially unbafled tweeter fixed to the cabinet and uncoupled thanks to a damping material avoiding transition of unwanted vibrations to the tweeter.

WOOFERS/MEDIUM
2 x 5.2”. Anti-resonant zamac basket. Flat ventilated spider. Hypergraph carbone/Kevlar cone with perfect internal damping. Anti vortex phase plug for the medium driver and soft textile central dust cap for the woofer. Peripheral surround with high compliance and high damping giving strong and firm bass response. 1” moving coil wounded inside and outside a kapton support. Shielded magnet. Getting tension through a stainless steel threaded rod bolted to the center of the magnetic core and substance of the cabinetry.

TWEETER
Double ribbon to avoid any transmission of lateral surface sound waves. Overall dimensions respecting golden number proportions. Hyperbolic plain aluminum horn optimizing the efficiency and directivity till 30° out of the axes. They are built under custom specification using a specific inner damping felt at strategic spots resulting form our latest researches.

CROSSOVER
6, 12 and 18 dB/octave. Cut of frequencies 400 and 2200 Hz. The two woofers are working together Under 400 Hz. Large section copper air-coils, silver-framework capacitors with low tolerances. R/C circuit to have a linear impedance curve on the used bandwidth.
Point-to-point wiring, no circuit board using our new reference HP1132 cable. All components are measured and sorted with 0,1% tolerance in order to have exact same characteristics providing matching technical and musical performances of each pair of loudspeaker produced. The two separated modules of the crossover network are insolated one from the other with specific compound and located in a separate cavity to avoid any mechanical or electromagnetic interference.

You left out one minor technical detail...... price!!!!!!

Or dare I ask?

Specifications do seem very impressive... with different technologies used, i.e. anti vortex phase plug, central dust cap, double ribbon tweeter etc.

What about the colour? Is it black only or do they come in other wood veneers?

I had a good long and hugely enjoyable listen to their bookshelf speakers last year and I was very tempted... in fact if the Eist Dubh hadn't been such a success in my room I'm 100% sure I would have bought them. Instantly musical and involving, nicely detailed with a wide smooth frequency range. I was very impressed.
Vinyl -anything else is data storage.

Yep, same response as Ivor to the smaller ones, thought they were lovely, musical, different in a way. I was very taken with them.
