Something cool to consider....

Could be interesting to try as a basic music streamer.
Comes in Linux 14.04 and Windows 8.1 flavour's.

Re: Interesting new PC
Surely I cant be the only PC audio user that thinks this solution is interesting.
1.Windows or Linux....
2.Quad core atom with "enough cpu power" for music playback....
3.Easy to power via linear 5vdc 2amp.
4.USB 2.0 for USB connection to your favourite DAC or Spdif converter.
5.Built in wifi....
6.64 bit instruction set
7.Super low energy consumption
8. Modding potential
Easy to utilise with MPD distro's, Vortexbox, Daphile, older MQN versions, Playpcmwin, Bughead, etc
Any thoughts?

I think it's interesting too, but I get the sense that this isn't the kind of thing most of the people on this forum are targeting. When I first saw this I was sorry I'd just bought a NUC for Kodi use!

Re: Interesting new PC
I thought there would be interest on this forum, as users are always on the lookout for low powered (low noise) music players..
Who wants to power their PC's using car batteries! ;)
The Intel compute has x86 architecture (64 bit) and runs WIN 8.1/10 (+Linux 14.04) on a platform that powers off 5vdc 2amps (an easy load for a linear power solution). Sure its not super powerful, but for music duties this thing seems to have potential.
I guess it comes down to how the USB is implemented on the board.
While googling, I found a cheaper variant with the same CPU but 2 usb ports, making USB connection to a DAC/Converter and a USB based music drive easier.

The new NUC's are pretty cool, wireless and Bluetooth is now on the motherboard.Diapason wrote:I think it's interesting too, but I get the sense that this isn't the kind of thing most of the people on this forum are targeting. When I first saw this I was sorry I'd just bought a NUC for Kodi use!
HD5500/6000 graphics to boot. All you need is ram and a HDD/SDD..... and an OS of course.
But Linux is free is you dont need to spend any money there....... Openlec, Ubuntu, etc..

Yeah I'm running openelec for the moment, with daphile on a stick for a quick reboot if better sonics/more audiophile cred required. Works well.
