Forum Search Engine

Post by jkeny »

I know this has been broached before but I believe a number of people find the search engine on this forum less than useful.
I believe that there is a great wealth of information contained within this forum but it's not searchable so therefore it is lost.
I'm sure this is a barrier for newcomers wanting to see what the forum is about with the intention of participating.
I also just find it extremely frustrating when I know I posted something here a while back I want to look at it - recently I wanted to check the measurements I had done with IQTest but can't find them.

Anyway, seeing as it's the start of a new year is there anything that could be done to improve the searching? Is this a restriction of the particular software/hosting service/subscription?

Could we consider a small voluntary subscription to improve matters?

Yea, I believe I was told that before but I still find it a PITA & I'm pretty sure it puts off some potential members (I know keeping the forum small has a number of advantages so this might not be a good reason - in fact it may work against what I'm saying - don't want to attract a horde of members who will require more moderation effort)

Let me look at this - I remember doing something in the background before - kinda like re-indexing the search database. I'll look it up and report back.....

Have another try - I've re-indexed the search database.

Bear in mind it won't search for anything under 3 characters.

Also try the advanced search - so I could search for IQtest, from user jkeny and displayed posts (as opposed to topics) and I got about 5 results, 2 from this topic and 3 from the computer audio thread......

Let me know OK?

Is there no auto-indexing function that will do this auto for you instead of manual intervention?
