I will be interested in learning what you make of those recordings Fergus. I do not have many recordings by Mariner and the ASMF so I cannot form an opinion of them.fergus wrote:Another set of Mozart Horn Concertos has now been purchased based on a recommendation here....

Re: Recent Purchases
That one came up as a recommendation in one of my request threads Seán and I went with it on the following basis....
I already have a CD with Pyatt playing the R Strauss Horn Concertos which I already like.
I think that Marriner/ASMF are really good in Vivaldi. They have a lightness of touch and a certain gaiety/joyousness in that music which I am hoping will transfer to Mozart.
I will of course let you know what I think of it when I get to listen to it.

Re: Recent Purchases
I have decided to purchase more Tchaikovsky, this time his Manfred Symphony under Pletnev....
Paul [mcq] helped to nudge me in the direction that I was inclined to go with this one.

Another purchase! As I am on something of a roll I have decided to finally treat myself to the René Jacobs version of Gluck's Orfeo e Euridice....
This one has been on my Wish List for a long time so I have finally made the purchase.

I think you'll enjoy those recordings, Fergus. You're in safe hands with Pletnev for the Manfred Symphony and Jacobs' version of Orfeo e Euridice is a desert island recording for me. Simply exquisite.
