So I am officially opening my Christmas Season musically with two of the three requiste JS Bach cantatas for the day that is in it, BWV 61 & BWV 62 under the directorship of Harnoncourt from Vol. 16 of the pioneering cycle that both he and Leonhardt produced way back when....

Hi Fergus,
I love the Bach cantatas too - have much of the Suzuki set.
Would you know where I can find a listing of cantatas appropriate for calendar/feast days?

Mark.
Here is a link Mark, Fergus might have more information: http://www.bach-cantatas.com/LCY/Lutheran-2011-2015.htm
Many thanks for the assistance. Mark

Il Giardino Armonico and Giovanni Antonini yesterday in Mexico City. Electrifying performances of Tarquino Merula, Dario Castello, Domenico Sarri but most especially a stunning performance of Vivaldi´s La Follia. WOW!!!!!!

Berlioz: Symphonie Fantastique performed by Orchestre Lamoureux, Paris / Markevitch....

I can readily understand why this would become one’s favourite version. It is magnificent! It is really well played, the performance is very assertive and there is great tension throughout.

It´s above all superbly theatrical Fergus, something inherent to the composition.

The Giardino Armonico concert was yet another event. The playing was stupendous, refined, aristocratic, but vital and red blooded at the same time. Wished you guys had been there!

And since we are talking of Il Giardino Armonico...the first release of their Haydn cycle expected to be finished in 2032!!!! (I wonder if I´ll be around by then). This first release includes 3 short symphonies, including La Passione, and Glück´s Don Juan Ballet. The playing is of course exquisite.
