Willy Vlautin's latest project, The Delines, are playing Ireland at the start of June. Sounds interesting

Kevin Welch plays Naas

Post by Derek »

OK, I don’t often recommend a gig, especially a small intimate local gig, but sometimes something comes along that’s too good to be kept to yourself.

http://www.kevinwelch.com/ check out the tour dates.

Kevin Welch & his son Dustin, will play McAuley Place in Naas on Wed 24th doors 7.30 gig starts @ 8.00 sharp. It’s a fund raising concert for the Jack & Jill Foundation. Tickets are €17.50 available from McAuley Place, ISS recruitment Naas (over O’Brien’s Sandwich Bar) or on the door on the night if still available. I don’t know how they are going but it deserves to sell out not just for the fundraiser but it’s Kevin Welch.
The venue is in the Nuns Old Chapel, (in what was the convent, beside the church) the acoustics are really very good, and the place doesn’t hold much more than a couple of hundred.

http://mcauleyplace.ie/events/ That’s the chapel it the main top picture showing a local art group exhibition.

To refresh some memories, Kevin Welch covered Guy Clark’s “Magdalene” on The Tribute to Guy Clark album “This One’s For Him”. He also has a string of albums to his name and in partnership with Kieran Kane and Fats Kaplin.
If you like Guy Clark, Steve Earl, John Prine, Townes Van Zandt, Joe Ely etc, you get the vibe.

Also, tomorrow night, at the same venue Luan Parle with special guest guitarist Clive Barnes.
What can I say, this one I can’t get to but Clive Barnes playing a 10 minute walk away.

Think "Marshall Tucker Band" meets "Lynyrd Skynyrd"

I picked up The Whippoorwill CD and was impressed, so I booked tickets for this gig months ago, hoping for a good night of southern country rock.

Blackberry smoke
Quick review

pros: Great band, extremely tight, awesome bass player and surprising dual lead guitar work. A very enjoyable gig.

Cons: No blackberries were present at said gig.

The pint was good though.

Yeh, a really good gig, with a good supportive crowd and the sound quality was very good.
The dual lead guitar transported me back to Thin Lizzy gigs.
If they come here again I'll be gettin' tickets.
