I've seen a couple of posts on here about cleaning LPs but nobody seems to have mentioned this little device:
https://www.kabusa.com/ev1.htm
It seems to get a lot of praise across the internet universe but it has to be purchased from the States so am a bit nervous of taking the plunge.
I recently purchased a Knosti Disco Anti-stat cleaning machine and haven been shocked by the transformation it managed on lots of old second hand finds I had given up on due to unacceptable levels of surface noise.
So now I'm a record cleaning machine believer and ready to move up to the next level....
Any help much appreciated!
KAB EV-1 vacuum record cleaning machine
Re: KAB EV-1 vacuum record cleaning machine
Not familiar with this machine but KAB have a good rep online (SL1200/10 mods), so it`ll probably be fine. Cleaning records is necessary but a complete pain in the... :-)
Re: KAB EV-1 vacuum record cleaning machine
That's pretty cheap really, I bought a Milty anti-stat gun which does an ok job usually but really earned it's keep with a 1964 copy of a Diana Washington album. I might try that yoke.Thor wrote: I recently purchased a Knosti Disco Anti-stat cleaning machine and haven been shocked by the transformation it managed on lots of old second hand finds I had given up on due to unacceptable levels of surface noise.

Re: KAB EV-1 vacuum record cleaning machine
Would there be any interest in a collective tirnahifi.org record cleaning machine purchase?
Seems ideal for a time share arrangement, maybe headed up by a senior member like yourself Ivor?

Senior member? Very diplomatic there Thor! ;)
If memory serves Andy Spencer bought a good machine and offered it to members at a very reasonable rate. I haven't seen Andy in a quite some time but you might try a PM?
But yes, a collective tirnahifi.org record cleaning machine might be an idea to mull over alright... it's exactly the sort of thing we should be doing really. The mods will hold a synod and discuss this in some depth.

Re: KAB EV-1 vacuum record cleaning machine
Thanks Ivor.
The positives for the KAB EV-1 are:
(a) cheap - would work out around 55 euro each if four people shared it
(b) no real mechanical parts to break - less scope for recriminations :)
(c) very light - time share owners could simply meet up for a coffee when it's time for handover, easily carried by hand.
It's a Nitty Gritty machine but you just provide your own hoover and do the spinning by hand.
Of the options in the poll, I voted for the Okki Nokki but I have heard rumblings of reliability issues...

Re: KAB EV-1 vacuum record cleaning machine
Nitty Gritty also do a kit I think. Just needs someone to do a bit of woodwork. I don`t think your average hoover has the suction to do the job properly - especially those Dyson heaps of junk! Worst hoovers ever. Brutal design, brutal handling. Bring back the Nilfisk 90 I say :-). But seriously, I have had a few cleaners in the last ten years. VPI HW16.5, Clearaudio Matrix & Smart Matrix (which I still use). I would suggest asking Ivan for a `Forum Special` on one of the sturdier machines or perhaps to keep an eye out for a trade-in. Bear in mind that it has been my experience not to clean more than about ten records at a time for two reasons. 1) It`s a royal pain. 2) the motor runs quite warm and can burn out if worked for too long at one time. There is also a thread on the Hoffman Forum I think, about a homemade ultrasonic cleaner. Top of my list when I win the Lotto.

Re: KAB EV-1 vacuum record cleaning machine
Hi Ivor. I`m posting here as the other thread suggests that by posting/voting you are including yourself in the potential purchase of a machine. As I already have one etc. Cheers, Dave.
