so I came across an old laptop of mine in the attic and had the brainwave that I could use it in the kitchen as music server type do-hickey, seeing as that is where I do most of my listening these days (to a 25 euro philips mini-shyte-stem)
I have a fatman itube enroute, and herselfs iphone will be one source, and my latop will be the other....
Now the plan has gone awry as I can't get my iphone or itouch to work as remotes.... they work with my macs but not the laptop...
I have tried two different wireless networks (eircom router and belkin N+) and tried to set-up an ad-hoc network (unsuccesfully)
but no matter what I try Itunes never lists my device under "devices"....
any ideas
the plan was to leave it plugged in in a cupboard using the ipod as a remote, I'll just have to use the ipod if I can't fix this as there is nowhere suitable to keep it otherwise.....
btw
it's a toshiba satellite pro 600 running xp pro sp2

Re: Mac boy needs xp help!!
lord bless us and save us it's complicated this stuff....
I have changed all the firewall permissions, updated the port-forwarding for each router, updated the wifi driver on the laptop, assigned the ipod a static ip..
it works almost every time with the macs but the pc is still in a huff....
does anyone know if I am banging my head against a brick wall hardware wise??
