Go into the properties menu for the control.exe and tick run as admin. Sometimes running as win7 compatability works.
Go into the properties menu for the play file and do the same.
...
In my experience on 2012R2 don't set 'Run as Administrator' on mqnplay.
On Win 8.1 do put it on for mqnplay, but if it fails try also without.
For both do set it on mqncontrol.
What I notice sometimes when it happens to me suddenly (yest it does happen with me too, just out of the blue), is to play an sse version and then go back to avx again. No guarantee but with me it does help, sometimes.
@Gordon
Hope to try the latest releases tonight. But I did not find 4.82 lacking bass, but that's just me. More bass will be a challenge to control again and keep it insightfull, detailed and with clarity which all were in good balance with 4.81 256 avax128 nop.
Cheers

wasn't the bass, just a feeling the sound could be tighter. Have found a few more settings, so hopefully one or two will be keepers.

guess the first thing to try is 4.86 1 and 2
4.86 1: more volume/quantity of lower bass; less detail in mid and low bass and less control of lowest bas. At higher volume will give you a headache because of SPL of lowest bass.
4.86 2: again somewhat more quantity of lowest bass, but better controlled than 4.86 1. Loss of detail in both mid and low bass compared to 4.82 256 avax128 nop, therefore not as beautiful and impressive in replay.
-----------
Others up to 4.91 things don't differ much from these observations, the latest 4.90&4.91 having the fattest bass, and 4.87&4.88 the least fat bass. All loose detail and clarity in mid bass. Lowest bass have varying amounts of loss of control. None have better control IMO.
uploaded 4.92 avx, same as 2.82 but with an avx specific compile setting
4.93 avx
4.92 better top end than 4.82. Bass is somewhat fuller. No 'judgement' on that aspect yet.
Better 'control' is the highs, not as sharpish in piano pieces that have a sharp attack on the keys in the high notes range.
-------
4.93 is better than 4.92 on the bass. The bass is really deep but still very well controlled. Volume was on level causing vibrations in my sofa, but was still a controlled sound and very deep and weighty. Better than 4.82 as well. Sound of deep bass on 4.82 is different, not as full and weighty, thereby showing more of texture. Dark tones of 4.93 can cover the details that are shown in 4.82.
Decays in 4.93 are a bit shorter than 4.82.

interesting mostly should suit here as well then
sd card player, modded soekris dac, class a lifepo4 amp or gb class a/b amp, diy open baffle speakers based on project audio mundorf trio 10's
It seems to me that the differences amongst these versions are quite subtle. All are very good.
4.87 is my choice at the moment.
Not listened 4.96 yet.
