On a recent visit to Cloney's I had the opportunity to listen to a beautiful pair of ProAc Response D30R floorstanders, powered by a Devialet Amplifier. Very very impressed I was with the accuracy / delivery of the ProAcs. ProAc are obviously doing something right. I was amazed when Ivan removed the front grill to reveal a ribbon tweeter and a single driver!! The speakers sit raised off a plinth and have a single downward firing bass port. Can these speakers give bass, or can they give bass!! Tiger Ebony veneer was the finish... and impress they did indeed!!! They are fairly tall, standing at 41" or 1.041m,

Nice simple two way driver designs always get my attention as I believe they usually offer very good coherance across the spectrum and a simpler crossover.
It has been a long time since I've listened to ProAc's, not since I compared with a pair of B&W804's way back. I went for the 804's on the looks but the ProAc's were probably a little more musical. Lovely finish on those Adrian. Are you tempted? ;-)

Well I believe the ProAc Repsonse D30R comes in at 4.5K stg... but sterling has been gaining serious ground vrs the euro over the last few years.... so I think you are looking at around 5.5K euro at the moment. The D30R is kind of quirkey... with the off centre Ribbon tweeter, very straight lines / square edges, a speaker which instantly commands presence in a room,,,,, whether pumping volume or not.
Ivan mentioned that he has sold several pairs over the last few months... and I can well understand why.
If you manage to get a chance to pop in.... even for 15 minutes and just ask to hear the Response D30R's you will not be disappointed. Coincidently... on the thread of the Old Cloney Forum... the group photo also includes a pair of ProAcs.
Quality always sells itself... never heard a bad word about ProAcs.
Would I be tempted.... yep I sure am... however I am not yet in favour with the bank at the moment... I have to build up a better reserve of funds. But if I was going for a change of speaker.... I would have the Response D30R on my shortlist..... yeah....no problem.

I'd have to say, in this day and age (harrrupppmhh!) I'd expect magnetic grilles for that kind of money, especially with beautiful veneer ProAc use....
Brass Bands are all very well in their place -
outdoors and several miles away....
Proacs are great but never liked the rather revealing/sharp Scanspeak tweeters they use though this one might just be in a different ballpark altogether.....Having said that I would love to hear a floor standing pair in my room.....

I believe the ribbon tweeters here do not dominate the sound. I've found before with ribbon tweeters all you hear is the treble, even with everything else "there" they constantly distract. As I say these are supposed to be better!
