let's try some maths.

assume osx makes 100 errors per second.
that's 112 errors per second in win8.

conclusion:
BOTH OS SUCK. it doesn't mean osx is better.

Audivarna on Osx vs vlc player on win r2 std with gui
On my msi b85 g43 audio pc
Vlc on r2 was much better sq wise

And I don't think having the exact impedance on usb cables means much
Many good audiophile usb cables wouldn't meet the impedance spec
sd card player, modded soekris dac, class a lifepo4 amp or gb class a/b amp, diy open baffle speakers based on project audio mundorf trio 10's

ha ha

are you testing for vlc too?
dunno was ablut 8 months ago what ever the latest was that time
was more of a general sort of random player on windows r2 vs audiophile player on osx

funny that it looks like the best player for a mac is more than likely windows 8.1/r2

In the USB cable article I read Miska's post -

I never liked USB Audio Class, it is over complex while at the same time having stupid design for the transfer model (1 ms packet rate with variable packet size based on async feedback).

Just for fun, compare source code of Linux UAC driver vs hiFace driver.

P.S. Or even better, use PCIexpress or Thunderbolt interfaces and gain direct busmaster DMA without wasting CPU time building special audio transfer packets.

Would anyone be able to outline how one would use the PCIExpress interface to play MQn? I realise before I write this, that it could be a dumb question! But as Miska says, using USB to transfer the audio signal from MQn to the DAC does seem to be a poor technical solution.

Hi Johnathon
What way do pcie soundcards
Would have thought if they were given dedicated clean power supplies they would stand a better chance of having better sq than usb dacs

Interesting you raise this.

On the weekend I will be putting my Yellowtec puc2 lite, up against a Juli@ ESI PCI to spdif card.
As I have been looking for a PC spdif output solution that works in windows and linux.

For those that don't know the Yellowtec puc2 lite is a fantastic (pro grade) usb to aes converter, which out preformed the highly respected audiophilleo 1, in two systems I tested the unit in.
After I heard the yellowtec I brought one and sold my audiophilleo 1...

I'll keep you informed.

My gut feel is the ESI Juli@ will sound very good.

must admit I use an unmodified usb printer cable, maybe time for a change.

with non usb implementations you have options for memory mapping between source and device using wdm ks.
