MQN
Re: MQN
I went back to 3.14 and in my system the music lost clarity as if a curtainhad descended in front of the speakers. Control was 1.6
Versions > 3.7x to 3.9x are my preference. Control 1.6. . Perhaps it is a bit more digital , but i like it . Listened for 6 hours to 3.75 over the weekend . Orchestral , to indie , swing , some rock. mqn sems to take it all in its stride.
Has anyone calculated the number of possible permutations of mqn ? I would guesstimate many hundred.

3.97 was much better than 3.98 IMHO.
----------
The 0x8 sounds much like 3.98
The 0x0 sounds much better, but doesn't have the air and space around the tones that 3.97 and 3.14 avx have.
Of today's batch I like 3.97 best.
Cheers

But have you considered your Naim gear might be dulling things a little.
Maybe try another amplifier, just as a reference.
Naim gear can sound rather flat in comparison to alternate hifi brands.
I have a friend who has reported this first hand.
I trust his ear like mine.
Could be why you are chasing extra detail, while others are reporting differently.
Just a thought, not trying to cause trouble.
Maybe something to consider.

Re: MQN
+1 3.14 is too much for long listening.sbgk wrote:that's surprising, 3.98 has superior detail to 3.97 on my system, 3.97 is lumpy. 3.14 is too harsh for long term listening.
3.40 adds a bit more structure, would say it's one of the best I've produced.
mesmerising listening to a 1000 shades of blue
working my way through Rory Gallagher original album classics and sounds pretty live with 3.40. Saw him at the Aberdeen Capitol in the 80's, one of the best concerts I've been to.
mqncontrol 1024 calms it down. Not sure if its the best solution.
SBGK what control are you using.
cheers

Sounds like a lot of work, for something thats worse.jesuscheung wrote:2channelaudio,nige2000 wrote:Lol2channelaudio wrote:
JC you got some links re xa + xa??
You might get lost over there and never be seen or heard again
Look what happened jc ;)
google foobar xa....
download and install the modded win7.
download the modded foobar.
don't install any driver and don't tweak. just test it.
compare it to mqn.
you will be surprised how much more mqn can do...
a lot more...
one big difference. you never actually heard "mqn is delicate".
but you have heard
"mqn is live, direct, analog, high detail, musical"

Adolfo is using Minimal Server and WASAPI which mqn uses is supported in minimal server.

I can assure you Naim doesn't sound dull, in the least.
It does require you know how to set up gear properly.
So a reference to some unknown person doesn't mean much to me. I have heard many stories about bad setups.

Re: MQN
quickly tested
1cl pre hw 64 0x8
1cl pre hw 64 0x0
4.00
all of them are very calm/slow sound. "slow" is a compliment. don't know another word.
seems lean.

The most simple solution would be to have network drive that is accessible from both machine and use it as a pass through.
Otherwise the way I do it is like this.
On the minimal server you need also something of a graphical shell.
I use Q-Dir which offers a simple graphical shell but run as a single executable without installing or requiring anything else. So fully self contained and minimal.
In Remote Desktop you start Q-Dir and on your second PC you just do a Copy (Ctrl-C) and inside Q-Dir on the minimal Server you do a Paste (Ctrl-V).
Most RDP software I know allow you to use the Clipboard in shared mode in both local and remote computers. Some need to have this turned on in the settings.

bit of a "no offense but " statement
likely only thing wrong with alegs gear is the amount of digits in the price tag :)
