3.98 has again that kind of flatness, those subdued tones which I associate with loss of details and shine as if the high frequencies has been filtered out of the signal which makes the music sound dull.

3.97 was much better than 3.98 IMHO.

----------

The 0x8 sounds much like 3.98

The 0x0 sounds much better, but doesn't have the air and space around the tones that 3.97 and 3.14 avx have.

Of today's batch I like 3.97 best.

Cheers

3.98 has the recommended setting ie 0x2, 0x0 is multithread and 0x8 is speed over memory

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-gb/library ... s.85).aspx

am trying to convince myself that 0x0 is better, 0x8 maybe too sweet

The multithreading model offers best performance according the MS page.
Multi-threaded object concurrency offers the highest performance...
Apparently that performance brings part of the improvement to SQ I like.

But you should listen to 3.97 and 3.14 more than to 0x0

that's surprising, 3.98 has superior detail to 3.97 on my system, 3.97 is lumpy. 3.14 is too harsh for long term listening.

3.40 adds a bit more structure, would say it's one of the best I've produced.

mesmerising listening to a 1000 shades of blue

working my way through Rory Gallagher original album classics and sounds pretty live with 3.40. Saw him at the Aberdeen Capitol in the 80's, one of the best concerts I've been to.

Jasus you are as bad as me Rory Gallagher for testing! I am inclined to agree re 3.14. Find that for long sessions I am seeking out different versions. Went back to the auld 2.59 8 4 4 8 out of curiosity and not in good enough listening form to decide but certainly easier on the eardrums. I need to get the pico out of my PC to see if the edge on 3.14 is due to that. Have ended up with a Meridian 596 and using that through the Lampi and the sound is softer but has a nice punch to it and full bodied sound. Too early to be definite but am thinking it is more pleasurable than the 3.14

I need some help from the IT experts.
I have 2 PCs. One of them is dedicated to audio and runs Windows Server 2012 R2 in minimal-server mode.
I download the new MQn versions in the second PC and use Remote Desktop to access the audio PC.
The question is: how can I paste the new files to the audio PC in minimal-server mode? Do I have to convert the audio PC back to GUI mode?
Thanks.

Lol
You might get lost over there and never be seen or heard again
Look what happened jc ;)
2channelaudio,
google foobar xa....
download and install the modded win7.
download the modded foobar.
don't install any driver and don't tweak. just test it.
compare it to mqn.
you will be surprised how much more mqn can do...
a lot more...

one big difference. you never actually heard "mqn is delicate".
but you have heard
"mqn is live, direct, analog, high detail, musical"

The most simple solution would be to have network drive that is accessible from both machine and use it as a pass through.

Otherwise the way I do it is like this.
On the minimal server you need also something of a graphical shell.
I use Q-Dir which offers a simple graphical shell but run as a single executable without installing or requiring anything else. So fully self contained and minimal.

In Remote Desktop you start Q-Dir and on your second PC you just do a Copy (Ctrl-C) and inside Q-Dir on the minimal Server you do a Paste (Ctrl-V).
Most RDP software I know allow you to use the Clipboard in shared mode in both local and remote computers. Some need to have this turned on in the settings.

Cheers

Adolfo, are you using Audiophile optimiser in core ? If by chance you are , mqn is only supportded in gui mode if you are trying to load your music files onto the core computer.
