The great big vintage gear thread!

So I'm Fran and I have a problem with vintage HiFi!


I picked these up yesterday - coral bx1401, they sound pretty good!


Anyone else want to share?

Well done Fran.... on 2 fronts, first for admitting you have a problem, and second, they look like an ear full, what size is the bass driver?

A whopping 15"!

103db/w/m - I thought I might do a spud amp for them....
(have to justify the somehow!)

Wow... that really is something.... prehistoric 801's!!!!!!! ahahahahahahaha....

They look in good condition as well, I bet you you are going to have some fun with them!!

@ 103 db they are very sensitive are they not?

I have my grandfathers Trio amplifier...very similar to the unit below..

love the design on that amp Adrian!


A spud amp is a single tube very low wattage valve amp - typically a very simple build.... I think it came from the phrase "a one-tuber" ie one tube. well, tuber.... spud.... geddit?

that was my next question.....!!!

Is that a 7 way or 5 way speaker, some of the drivers look very similar?
Brass Bands are all very well in their place -
outdoors and several miles away....

it's even fully isolated from dirty A/C......
