new speakers

Post by paulb »

First of all I'm not great with words (or spelling) hope it will make sense..
so I am looking for new speakers, ideal budget would be @500, they need to work in medium to small rooms (they will travel between living room and bedroom) smallish size.also latelly been interested in one way speakers...had a pair of Eclipse td 508 that i really liked still have the 307's and would be looking for the same qualities fast ,great imageing but more...Been looking at a pair of gemme audio concerti 108 on the audio-philia.co.uk site, the john blue jb3f both bit over budget and wont be able to try before buying...also aware of the eist speakers but they are way over budget (what are the eist dove???).other options woud be jordan driver speakers i found some kit florstanders close to budget....
Can anybody help me with someother options?

Hmmmmm.........

You seem to have a interest in fairly particular speakers, one way drivers, a preference for horns etc.

However you mention about moving the speakers between rooms, do you intend to pick them up and physically move them... in which case floor standing speakers like Eist Dubhs or the Gemme Audio Concerti might be a bit too bulky to move around? I would have thought bookshelf speakers on stands would be more portable.

For 500 euro there are options... particularly in the second hand market... some great value to be had. However my knowledge of bookshelf single driver is very limited.

Does it have to be single driver, or are you open to consider a tweeter as well i.e. like this below..

Hi Paul, going by the continually good reports I would have no hesitation in recommending the Q Acoustic brand. Great speaker for a great price. See Deco Audio link below to give you an idea. I'm sure Hi Fi Hut here in Ire. do them too. Best of luck :)

Would you be worried about repeatedly disconnecting the cables, moving them around etc?? How robust are speakers generally? Just wondering as I often swop speakers around myself.

+1 on these Paul. HiFi hut do them alright Dermot. My brother recently got a pair of 2020i there and they're definitely great value and nice sounding (e.g. €205 at minute- http://www.hifihut.ie/speakers/bookshel ... a2522.html)

Hi Paul,
I could sort you out with a pair of these http://www.ckspeakers.com/shop/laviosa for close to your budget.
If you'd like to have a listen, let me know and we can get a pair out to you.

Pretty sure I want one way speakers...have the eclipse they are a very small pair of one way standmouts and like what tbey do but a 8 cm (2.5inches) driver can only go as far
...i want small size speakers but some bass so it means transmision line or horn loaded.i did hear the q acoustics but allready have a pair of small 2ways some highland audio and they wouldnt be too farr from them.i am looking for something a bit more unusual really...something that i would enjoy the sound, looks and engineering.the eclipse td are realy smart speakers and was considering the 510 but dont think the cost difference between models is worth.the 307 7cm driver @360£ 508 8cm driver @900£ 510 10cm @1900£...know there are more differences than driver size but still...i keep looking for a pair secondhand or exdem but could find yet.anyway thank you for the suggestions and keep
