Need help to disassemble Sennheiser HD650s

Post by DancingPriest »

Last night I lost the left channel on the 650s.
The problem is with the socket where the cable connects to the left can.
Specifically, the metal contacts in the socket have receded back far enough to prevent contact with the pins on the cable.
I can't find any info on this problem occurring before, or a disassembly guide.
It will be easy to fix once I get at it. Therein lies the rub, How to take them apart without breaking them?

Headfi is the palce you need to go to. I have seen pics of them disassembled so it obviously can be done. I've only ever gotten as far as taking the earpads off mine!!

That was the easiest fix in a long time.
It does however raise a question, Why do the 'drivers' have HD580 written on them?
Oh drat!

As per Headfi;
It seems that while the 'driver' differs from that of the HD580 and the HD600, they all share the same dust cap.
Phew!
