Just you and me I guess, Dave. I find myself looking for such things occasionally too, although generally more for research than entertainment. Have you found anything good?DaveF wrote:I can post up some stuff on French organ music if anyone's interested? (no?......didnt think so! lol)
(In other news, I had a most excellent lesson with Ben van Oosten recently, and then dinner and drinks. You might be one of the few people for whom this name-drop means anything!!)

ah just the usual stuff on youtube regarding the Cavialle-coll organs at St Ouen and Sulpice. That organ in Abli, France looks gorgeous and has an unusual sound. Gorgeous interior in that cathedral too.Diapason wrote:Just you and me I guess, Dave. I find myself looking for such things occasionally too, although generally more for research than entertainment. Now that's pretty awesome! You've met him before though I believe? Was considering buying his Louis Verne boxset.Diapason wrote: (In other news, I had a most excellent lesson with Ben van Oosten recently, and then dinner and drinks. I don't know the organ in Albi at all, I must look it up. If pushed, I'd probably say that Rouen is the organ I most want to hear in the world, and I think there's a plan afoot with some of my organ buddies to go there next year. St Sulpice in full roar gives me a certain giddy "not sure if I'm going to burst out laughing or crying" feel that normally only accompanies Irish Six Nations championship wins. I'm such a nerd.
I've met Ben several times now both socially and at more musical gatherings, and you couldn't hope to meet a nicer guy or a finer musician. Occasionally it dawns on me that I'm drinking with one of my heroes, that I bought and loved this man's CDs long before I knew him. Anyway, he's also a fantastic teacher and it was great to get a lesson on Franck's 1st Chorale from him. I can't wait for his recordings of Franck, they'll be a must-purchase.
His Vierne box-set is superb, as expected.

I'd love to see the Rouen one too but I believe the venue itself is only used for the odd recital. I'd want to hear the thing at full blast if I ever made the trip over.
