Of course that I know that you don't need to download! ;)sbgk wrote:Deer boy, (get it, your breaking hart comment a few posts back, anyway) I do this so I don't need to download.sima66 wrote: You sure that you downloaded the right one?! :))))))
I was just expressing my disbelief (in my way), since a lot of people likes it and agree on this one, but I find hard to believe that you don't!
Stop picking "under the bonnet"! ;-)

Re: MQN
I can only repeat what some of the others have already experienced and shared on the last few pages:
avx is still better than any sse on both of my systems (different DAC's, one 16/44, one 24/96). Tested the new sse's just for the heck of it, and unfortunately must confirm that for me this is not the right direction. 2.41 and 2.47 are moving even further away from 2.39 and 2.40 and sound really bad. The best of the sse's is still 2.31. Control 1.3 is better than 1.1, but control 100000 beats them both.
And after all the sse testing I did, I happily went back to avx 2.20 / ctrl 100000. But then I tried avx 100000 again in stead of 2.20, and contrary to what I wrote in my last post, I just like it better. No matter the slight loss in detail, it is so natural, so spacious, so musical, so... right. I just love it! :-)
So also for me the golden oldie best combo is still ctrl/play avx 100000.

Re: MQN
it's caused by the limitations of passing data through the cpu, the 100000 used hardware prefetch which has that digital sound, the idea is to have the data in the L1 cache just before it's required, that's what 2.49 does, any perceived lack of dynamics is due to lack of noise.
If you like 2.31 you should like 2.49
use control 1.4 as there is a fix to allow 24/192 to play

Re: MQN
avx 100000 sounds a tad more digital and flatter than the other new ones on my setup, so I agree with Gordons previous statement. I agree it has more speed, but details? No. Nothing that I feel is lacking in the other ones. But i feel that the avx is lacking in athmosphere/presence/3d. Interesting that so many think its the best
Re: MQN
avx vs sse is not open to debate, what we are trying to do is find the best code path.satshanti wrote:I can only repeat what some of the others have already experienced and shared on the last few pages:

you still have 2.49 to test. That's me done, I'll retry these old versions, but think 2.49 is the best I can get.
Re: MQN
avx on a haswell is something else, just I can't play it so reluctant to release another version without understanding why, it might damage the machine.darkpink wrote:avx 100000 sounds a tad more digital and flatter than the other new ones on my setup, so I agree with Gordons previous statement. Re: MQN
i actually thought the noise floor got a little worse somewhere around 2.37 think i mentioned it at the time
there are a few versions that have some real nice properties, theres not one that has them all yet
i have a few new ones to test yet
avx always gave an advantage here

Re: MQN
Just listened to a few albums on R2.49+R1.4
Van Morrison - Astral Weeks 24/192
Rickie Lee Jones - Pirates 24/88
Oliver Nelson - Blues and the Abstract Truth 16/44
Very impressed on all sample rates, low noise floor, plenty of detail, good bass. Highly recommended.

Is this in 24-bit container or in 32-bit container?
Cheers
