think he means an accurate reference point needs to be a live performance, if you use cd,tape, radio etc as a reference you will lend yourself into their flaws and not surpass their sq
acoustics have the least equipment and are the least altered, therefore more true sounding, because of varying sound of different amps electric guitars, keyboards, drums etc is more vast its more difficult to get a good reference point

well i find it easier to pre test with acoustic stuff because its more about the way it should sound (live/real factor) more than you like the way a particular version makes Jimi's guitar sound
most of the time versions that pass acoustic tests will pass rock scrutiny too
That's exactly what I meant. I couldn't have put it any better. I don't normally listen to a lot of classical or jazz for enjoyment. I am an old rocker! And you're absolutely right when most of the time a sytem that sounds good with acoustic stuff will sound good with rock, too. This is not always the case the other way around. I can also understand when all you ever play is rock, you just don't care how your setup sounds with classical music. But if your aim is to create a player that comes as close as possible to being able to reproduce the analogue waves that were used to create the source file, there's no better way than to use material that's not processed in any way, just recorded with some microphones and maybe mixed. The best recordings to judge the capacity for reproducing the sound stage of a system are the ones where only two mikes were used to create a stereo image, but these are relatively rare.

Not if the darned thing won't play then inexplicably works after a number of attempts. Grrr! Now that Gordon is having an issue with SSE2 maybe these things are linked and we can find a resolution.
versions can stop working one day. my 100000 is still on strike. (i don't windows update. so, what's the cause?)

JC, I believe that you have the trial version of the 100000 and in your case it just expired!! ;-)
You need a new licence! :)))

i seem to prefer sse4>avx>sse2.
don't have haskell. i guess avx2>sse4, as people like avx2.

think sse4 has higher res > avx.
avx has magic music flow.
have heard sse4 flows as well as avx. but the chance is 1 to 100.

(if sse2/avx is automatic, sse4 is manual)

What you think of bass in version 2.37 upwards
maybe 2.37 with 1.1 control
much of everything else is worse

could do with a new avx with the new good mods

Avx2 has never played for me and I put it down to my ability to always mess up the set up but definitely looks like some gremlin in the works. I have a laptop also that refuse to play MQn. It runs windows 8.1 but no version every worked on it.

That, dac has digital inputs as any other dac, including Usb, so no issues for MQn.
My point is, how people feel about SD in general. Is that way to go or it's a just another attempt to break in with something different.

could be a good dac, might be worth hearing
sdcard will work fine cause its low power and its intergrated (no cables etc)
but cant imagine say sdcard sounding better than a usb3 implementation,
and i havent come across any standard sdcards that are faster than usb2, neverless they should be fast enough

anyway might deserve a slot on the shortlist
