Hector Berlioz
Symphonie Fantastique

Boston Symphony Orchestra
Charles Munch conducting.
Recorded in 1962.

What an astonishing work this is. I had forgotten how wonderful this performance really is and the orchestra's playing is beautifully captured by the studio engineers too.

Even though I have some of these cantatas, I didn´t collect the complete cycle, and now Amazon.de is offering it at 171 euros, well, that´s with the detaxe for us not living in the European Union, so every cd costs about 4 euros, certainly a bargain.

That is an interesting coincidence Seán as I was planning to do a survey of my own collection of that work in the near future. It is an amazing work!

You are the second member here that I know of Pepe that has bought that set. I have all of the original issues but I certainly did not get them for €4 each! Enjoy the set.

Two Magnificats are better than one:

and when that was finished it was straight into

It is terrific Fergus, and definitely a bargain. I´m giving the individual volumes I have to my nephews. They are getting very sophisticated ha, ha.

I have decided that I should stop posting the obscure Baroque composers that I am currently listening to and show some composers that people may be able to relate to so I listened to this recent purchase....
