Actually, moving to Linux improves the driver position; if your DAC is UAC Class 2 compatible, and most are, Linux's ALSA built-in USB output driver in the Linux kernel does not require a proprietary driver at all. I can verify that when I used MPD connected to my WaveIO USB-S/PDIF converter.

If only Microsoft had built in UAC2 compatibility into Windows. It's not difficult - they must have chosen deliberately not to do so for some perverse reason. Apple did it with OS/X years ago, but of course OS/X is basically Linux under the hood and that's one reason it produces good SQ.

would be nice if MS has native driver to compare with with OEM driver.
but if there is OEM driver, why use MS driver... MS driver almost never updates.

For the record the fact that MQN comes anywhere close to a $2500+ retail component like M50 is a testament to the potential of Windows Audio.

I think MQN peaked a little while - the newer versions being variations on a theme. Gordon could probably use a long break anyway.

I also think it's all about the power supply and agree w/ jkeny that the PC needs lots of help in terms of that to go toe to toe with a standalone high priced unit. Something like an Intel NUC that can be made to run off linear power seems a good start.

weve tested the intel nuc versus dedicated pc's before on battery before, dedicated builds have the edge most likely because there easier to modify the power supplies to the components,
it depends on how far you want to go into the rabbit hole as it gets more and more complicated
the g43 board you have is a great board with the right modifications

we havnt had much gain since 2.71's but funny that they all sound different and i prefer one over another for different tracks

i thought that it was only the optimised pcs (not just power supplies) that would be comparable to these high end branded units and should be matching/bettering them

we will have to find a nad m50 for a shoot out

Jkeny brought that board to our attention a while back on the build a PC thread

I thought its great that there doing something about the issues, but it still not going far enough for what we're doing
If I were doing a build with this board I still think it will need all of the usual power supply mods

Don't know about anyone else, but this thread was started to be about MQn and for the last few postings (including my own I would add), have been about off topic subjects.

Unsurprising with Gordon appearing to have stopped development, but I would think we should keep the thread for pure MQn interest?

I completely agree with jrling.
On one hand we try to convince Gordon not to give up on MQn, but, on the other hand, we already started to look for alternative solutions!

I never tried any servers and do not intend to. After JPLAY dual PC setup, I'm very happy with my one PC and MQn.
PC might be the worst component for music, but we all did a hell of a job by improving it every day. A big and special thanks to Gordon for that.
I'm sure that most of as (if not all "addicts") will not give up and I only hope that Gordon will be among the most.

was having a bit of a meltdown over the thought of discontinuation

had a quick listen to jplay 5.2 with single pc, its improved a lot but..... yes back to mqn, not floating me boat

do you have to start from scratch for ks?
