Johan Sebastian Bach
Christen, ätzet diesen Tag BWV 63
Gloria in excelsis Deo BWV 191

Monteverdi Choir
English Baroque Soloists
John Eliot Gardiner - conducting.

I had these two on repeat play yesterday and gain today.
If I, as a newbie, were to compare Bach performers I would say that I LOVE Herreweghe's Bach for it's sheer beauty and uplifting spiritual feeling; I like Suzuki for it's surgically clean, beautifully recorded, flawless (yet, at times monotonous) performances and now Gardiner's for the pulsating (unavoidable foot-tapping) rhythms, the awesome beauty of the choir and Gardiner's singers, the ritualistic dedication and devotion of all the performers; every performance is delivered with 100% conviction which is hugely uplifting, in short, it is marvellous, I LOVE it. Thanks JEG!

I have ploughed a long and lonely furrow in the promotion of Gardiner's Bach interpretations for many years and I am delighted that my efforts to convince are finally beginning to pay dividends. Long may you enjoy the music making of those wonderful forces Seán!

This is a really gorgeous and spiritually uplifting performance of BWV63, when I had finished listening to it I returned to Gardiner's recording which is simply the best.

Did you enjoy that CD Claus?
I liked it very much. I have a cold so the sound was a bit shrill, but her voice is great in my opinion.
