Oh is it? I will definitely return to it this evening and I will use Simon's wonderful notes as an aide to my understanding of Purcell's lovely music.

It´s a superb recording Fergus, and buying the recording will not only afford you a lot of pleasure but will help to support Les Arts Florissants, one of the most noble and important musical projects of the last 30 years. It´s frightening that in these difficult times when idiots, morons and Lady Gaga lovers run the major companies, orchestras like the Concertgebouw, the LSO and the Chicago Symphony, and groups like the Monteverdi Choir and now Les Arts Florissants have had to create their own labels in order to preserve their performances for posterity. Many people think that any recording makes money, far from it, especially in difficult, non-commercial repertoire, and a 3 hour Handel oratorio is as far from "commercial" as you get, it was NOT commercial in Handel´s time, when he had to struggle to make ends meet, and it´s not commercial in our own time, but the important thing is that this is very great music that not only entertain us, but makes us better. That´s why we have to support it.
