I tried the clockrate registry change to 23220 today(from 10000) with 1024 sw and the sound was very nice indeed. I'm using John Kenny's Ciúnas dac and there's no buffer control (that I know of), maybe John can comment. It played a couple of albums fine but when I went to play a third album , all 16 bit, the music juddered and didn't run smoothly. i set the clock rate back to 10000 and all was well. Any ideas?

I'm back on 23200 again and no probs at all. I changed Win32PrioritySeparation to 28 yesterday and it wouldn't play at all so I rebooted and it worked and hasn't had a problem since. Sound is superb too, the microscopic detail is unbelievable.

Aleg, thanks again, for trying to disable HPET in my Zuma, but in my "On-Board Devices", I have only "Audio" and "LAN" choices! Nothing else!

There are always differences between boards and BIOS-versions.
My DH87RL board does have it in BiOS. So assuming you have the latest BIOS version for your, board, it seems Intel didn't expose this setting for this board for some reason.

The only option available is to disable the HighPrecisionTimer in your Device Manager in the Control Panel. That should work at least from the level of the Operating System.

Cheers

The latest 44.1/16bit versions are superb, we're all just waiting for the 24bit versions :)

What's the consensus (if there is one) on the best sounding of the latest versions? I thought it was 1024-sd?

For Digital Audio playback that delivers WHERE the performers are on stage but more importantly WHY they are there.

For me the 1024-sw is just a nose length ahead of 1024-sd because it has just slightly more sense of space that I like.
