An exquisite oratorio by Giovanni Bononcini. The Belgian group Les Muffatti is a marvel.

I do like her of course, she had one of the greatest voices of our time, but maybe more in Rossini than in Richard Strauss.Seán wrote:I think that she has an amazing voice, I wonder if Pepe likes her?fergus wrote:On vinyl, a really lovely recital of R. Strauss SOngs sung by Montserrat Caballé....

Re: What are you listening two?
The program is absolutely fascinating: Fux, Caldara, Ziani, Conti, Tuma, the glories of the Viennese Imperial Court at the beginning of the XVIII Century. But countertenor Alex Potter, isn´t very exciting, not in the days when the likes of Jaroussky, Fagioli, Cencic, Zazzo, etc, set the standards. I don´t mean there´s anything wrong with the singing per se, Potter is a well educated and confident performer, it´s just that now we expect much more of countertenors. The orchestral accompaniment on the other hand, especially the trombones and the bassoon, are exquisite.

On the other hand, the new Zefiro recording is indecently gorgeous. 3 Telemann suites for 2 oboes and bassoon, out of this world oboe and bassoon playing from Alfredo Bernardini and the Grazzi brothers.

Another great addition to the Biber discography. Cantus Cölln performs often the choral works of Biber and Kerll, and I think this is the repertoire that suits them best, Needless to say these are expert performances, the soloists are all wonderful and the works themselves magnificent.
