Same preference here.
8 add is too much 'in my face' and 'up front'
Just had another listening session, given the way my system was sounding and my hearing tonight it was 2.59 sse4 intel 8 4 16 16 8 that kept me coming back for more, mixture of Oscar Peterson, Van Morrison, Lynyrd Skynyrd and AC/DC - back in black is a particularly bright album that players always struggle with, this version played it ok. Have moved it back from archive.

No more folder switch and double click to MQn.bat, I just automated it.
1. Create a shortcut to MQn.bat
2. Move it or copy to Windows Desktop, it must be located in there.
3. Click right button and open properties
4. Position mouse to "Shortcut Key" field
6. Press what ever key you want to use. F12 for some reason didn't work, but F10 and F11 did.
7. Apply
I actually picked CTR-ALT-X. Why, I don't need to move my fingers once I do CTRL-C to copy my files wherever I pick them up from. Lazy me....
I copy them from JRiver, it is nice and easy to browse through my album collection, rather then through folders in Windows explorer.
Have fun!

I wouldn't be so worried. We should be patient.
Actually, I am very happy with the current versions.
I'm just sailing through my album collection pushed by the MQn wind on Naim/Harbeth sailboat...lol.

2.60 8 4 > 2.60 8 add

2.60 8 add
-listen to live convert. music from far far away fades too much, or is compressed as a narrower stage.
-doesn't feel full compares to 2.58 tot align
-think more details are revealed and also details have been lost.

2.60 8 4
-2.60 has compressed sound. 2.60 8 4 opens up, so one could hear more micro-details, especially in vocal.
-in terms of vocal micro-details, 2.59 8 4 16 16 4 8 is better. 8 8 16 16 8 eax add is also better.
-as suggested before, may need to decompress a bit more.

my farvorites:
2.60 sse4 8 4 //getting musical. can be much better.
2.59 sse4 intel 8 4 16 16 4 8 //great vocal details.
2.58 sse4 intel tot align.58 tot align //full, deep, correct but unfortunate defective.
2.51 sse4 intel rax no zi //best at nothing. good in everything. flat simple stage.

2.51 sse4 intel rax no zi //best at nothing. good in everything. flat simple stage.
2.6 8 add
reject - weird sound stage
2.6 8 4
reject - flabby sound
2.59 sse4 intel 8 4 16 16 4 8
reject - music register artificially lifted by the last 4 setting
2.58 sse4 intel tot align.58 tot align
reject - loss of detail
2.51 sse4 intel rax no zi
reject - loss of detail, uses harsh instructions which are then reduced by other settings, so doesn't sound good

My favourite - 2.59 sse4 intel 8 4 16 16 8, good bass extension, good detail, can follow the music, vocals are sweet and micro detail able to communicate the emotion of the track. It has an extra instruction to prime the tlb which seems to work and the 8 4 16 16 8 alignment seems optimal. 8 4 16 16 4 8 has this as well, but the final align 4 instruction lifts the sound too much for some reason.

12. TLB Priming
The TLB is the Translation Lookaside Buffer. The TLB is cache that is used to improve performance of the translation of a virtual memory address to a physical memory address by providing fast access to page table entries. Having it not in the TLB cache forces a cache misse which slows the code down. The trick is to pre-read a data byte from the next page before you have to read it. I will show an example later on in another one of the tips.

didn't notice you have added many versions of 2.59!!!

2.59 sse4 intel 8 16 16 4 8
all round good. hard.
2.59 sse4 intel 8 16 16 8
all around good. something's wrong.
2.59 sse4 intel 8 16 8
engaging. something's wrong.
2.59 sse4 intel 8 16 x 16 8
lack focus
2.59 sse4 intel 8 4 16 16 4 8
just vocal is fine.
2.59 sse4 intel 8 4 16 x 16 8
3D? not particularly impressed with this vocal. everything else is good as you say.

-some of them are very emotionally connected.
-not sure any of these 2.59 is a replacement for tot align.
-i feel 2.56 8 8 16 16 8 eax add pushes the micro-detail of vocal to the max limit. can a version best it? chasing dream?
-i probably prefer 2.59 sse4 intel 8 16 16 8. i can enjoy a lot of music with this one! thx.
-next prefer 2.59 sse4 intel 8 4 16 x 16 8. and then 2.59 sse4 intel 8 4 16 16 4 8.
-no offense. just don't like 3D. causes tiring. i am sure a lot of people like it. maybe using headphones 3D becomes too obvious.

can't wait to listen to TLB Priming.

Sorry I meant mqnplay.exe not mqnplayer.exe. I think everything is setup as per readme but am having problems.

I don't think the batch file is working on my PC for some reason as the "files.txt" file is empty, although the param.txt file does have the file name and path of the wav file from the clipboard. However, if I manually edit "files.txt" to include the wav file I want to play and make sure there is no additional CR at end of file and then try to launch MQNControl --file "files.txt" I can see MQNcontrol running in task manager at about 25% CPU but I don't hear anything.

You also need to give more information.

- CPU make/model?
- SSE2 or SSE4 capable?
- dual or quad core CPU?
Hi jkeny

My CPU is an Intel Core i5 2500T which is quad core SSE4 and running Windows 8.1 64 bit. My DAC is a dCS Debussy connected via on board USB. It doesn't have any drivers as it uses the Mirosoft USB driver. I have had this working with JPLAY5.1 and JRIVER Kernel streaming and JRIVER via WSAPI all fine.

In Windows I can see the dCS as a sound device and it plays fine and have tested it via JRiver and it plays in all modes (ie Kernel streaming, WSAPI, WAV Out etc)

Really appreciate any help or advice on what to try / test to get MQN playing.

Regards
Clive
