Re: Audio Pc or audio Pc/media center
Get away outta that with your sense!
In truth, I'm not in a position to do anything in the short term because I'm not buying anything until I'm sure I can make it all work. The space is an odd one, and I need to see whether I can fit everything in. I doubt there'll be room for a standard-sized PC, but time will tell.

careful now.........this PC building bug can bite just as much as hifi!
You may as well go the whole hog and go for a silent custom water cooled solution.....
Piece of cake!

Trouble is when you start replacing parts for quiet ones
you can rack up a big bill
new haswell completely silent build in a streacom fc8
beaut of a case starts at about 350 -400 euro
and they would be fit for all media and music
i shouldnt do sums in my head sorry!
€450-500
if its any consolation Daves will cost a small bit more
mad build altogether
what are you doing with that beast?
cant think of anything thats going to require that sort of power?
just benchmarking?

Re: Audio Pc or audio Pc/media center
Well it was my project while I was away from hifi. It took a bit of time and research to plan it all out and a few mock ups to finally figure out where all the parts would fit.nige2000 wrote: what are you doing with that beast?

I'm driving 3 30inch 1600p screens giving a total resolution of 7680 x 1600. That's approx 30% more pixels than a next gen 4K screen. 3 Nvidia GTX Titan graphics cards are needed to push all that res at decent framerates.
2 independent water loops, one for the graphics cards and one for the CPU, memory, chipsets. Plenty of radiators&fans in the top and bottom. Keeps things very cool so that I can overclock it all.
Yeah a bit over the top but it was more of an enthusiasts build as oppossed to really needing that much power.

Re: Audio Pc or audio Pc/media center
know a bit about that stuff
enough not to get hooked on custom builds anyhow
what monitors did you get? dells?
the rampage iv is probably the nicest boards out there
giving the time and money it takes to do a build like that
€500 euro and an hour for a htpc will seem like a breeze
any benchmarks?

Got the 30inch Hazro screens which dont have bells and whistles but have a great picture. They are very heavy screens too. The Dells are over 1k sterling a piece!
No benchmarks yet as I still have to tidy up the build and put the covers back on. I wanted to keep a good eye on it for a few weeks to leak test etc.
Please keep the HTC build recommendations coming!

Re: Audio Pc or audio Pc/media center
Another question: say I wanted a HTPC that could also play DVDs or even Blu-rays, what would such a thing cost to put together with remotely decent spec? Further discussions last night have put this project on serious hiatus I suspect, but I'm still curious. Case as before would have to be small.

the crossover died couple of weeks back, looks like been cheap aint so cheap
ill take the cover of it soon to see if there's anything obvious
one of my biggest fears of the water cooling is the leaks on expensive parts
im a sucker for a nice case which one did you use?

need sata adapters too
youll be making this sort of pricey
from personal experience its always best to get what will work well and that will be a pleasure to use
rather than to cheap out and have something you don't even want to use.
