Audio Pc or audio Pc/media center
Ive got two fresh computers a first gen i5 and a second gen i3 both are unemployed here except for a bit of testing. both are very capable of begin a great audio pc.
there are several different configurations possible depending on how deep one would like to go, but multi-task pc for movies and music need not be such a compromise or be as complicated as you would think.
if accompanied by jriver ipad/android apps can be used to control tracks
just wondered if there'd be any interest in these sort of things before i over think it
thanks

Re: Audio Pc or audio Pc/media center
Are these still available, Nige? If so, would consultancy services be part of the package...?
We're getting a second TV, and I'm thinking this is the time to put in a suitable music/movie/streaming solution. Sound quality wouldn't be paramount here (it's not the mancave), but ease of use would be. I'm "considering my options" at the moment.

Re: Audio Pc or audio Pc/media center
No problem Nige, and thanks for the offer of consultancy!
Yeah, that's the kicker, I really don't know at the moment. Basically the cheapest way possible to get a workable solution is probably the target here. It'll be going in an area off the kitchen, and is as likely to be used to show Peppa Pig as it is for music. As it stands, speakers, amp, DAC (?) TV, Sky multi-room and PC all need to be purchased, so...nige2000 wrote: whats the budget like

Re: Audio Pc or audio Pc/media center
don't forget to budget for a new phone line to the sky box if you don't have one handy...
sky now ring your boxes once a month, if your multiroom box doesn't answer they bill you for a full sub for each box you have...

Re: Audio Pc or audio Pc/media center
I'd forgotten about that, thanks JB. We'd be near the phone line, but not beside it, so I'll need to factor something in.

Re: Audio Pc or audio Pc/media center
might be taking cheap to an extreme but
http://www.donedeal.ie/pc-for-sale/hp-e ... pu/5504871
see if theres ram included
ive got a cpu for 40euro
20 euro usb key for the os
you could be up and running for 110 odd euro
wont make a bad pc at all
might be loud though

Re: Audio Pc or audio Pc/media center
Hmm, loud might be bad since this would probably be on nearly all the time. I must scrounge around and see what I have at home too.

Could you not change the fan to a quieter one? Is that too simplistic?Diapason wrote:Hmm, loud might be bad since this would probably be on nearly all the time. I must scrounge around and see what I have at home too.

Re: Audio Pc or audio Pc/media center
Theres ony one thing in a pc that make noise
fans
case fan
cpu fan
Graphics card fan (only if not integrated )
power supply fan
Trouble is when you start replacing parts for quiet ones
you can rack up a big bill
new haswell completely silent build in a streacom fc8
beaut of a case starts at about 350 -400 euro
and they would be fit for all media and music
