So this lived up to every thing it promised! I am quite certain that what happened in Whelans that night would be comparable to having seen a young Dylan, Waits or Neil before they got famous. This was song writing of the highest caliber combined with musicianship and talent in an intimate setting, delivered by artists who had wanted to play their music for years to this audience. Played as if their lives depended on it. With a sense of respect towards the art and the audience enjoying it, that I have seen bits of in the likes of Lucinda Williams and perhaps Wilco at recent live gigs. I have yet to experience Ryan Adams who is another "comparable" musician that seem to deliver quality writing with great consistency. I have started to learn what I think separates the truly great songwriters from the rest of the bunch: There is a fear and awe for the song as a living creature that needs careful nurturing to come to fruition. I am saying this after listening to a few interviews with Danish songwriters that I admire along with what Mr. Henry said on the night. Has Dylan said things along these lines or am I imagining this? Sorry for my ramblings... As you were....

Looking forward to this - for me - newly discovered artist performing in one of my all time favourite pubs!

Just a quick note on how this gig went:
It was absolutely fantastic! I was in tears from the moment he started singing! It was pure, raw emotion delivered with amazing humour and sensitivity… Just watching people's faces after the first song was amazing: People literally had to pick their jaws up from the tables! The force of his singing is quite surprising in a small room like The Cobblestone….I would recommend catching Richard if you get a chance.
