I know, I know... but as you're all aware it's been only 5 years and 2 months of classical listening, so there will still be small unexplored pockets everywhere, which I haven't gotten around to, especially given my (fairly) catholic tastes in repertoire....Seán wrote:SHOCKED and STUNNED. Yes I was aware of his unfortunate encounter with stomach cancer and I think frail is a very apt description of him at the moment. Hopefully all is indeed well.

AS do I Seán. Given the relationship between the two men I think that we are getting the nearest interpretations to Mahler's intentions for his music as is possible without it being conducted by Mahler himself; there is real provenance there and that always makes it very interesting for me personally.

Bruno Walter tried to persuade Alma to destroy the sketches and even the adagio of Mahler's 10th, which lucky for us she did not do!
But he is forgiven for his masterful recordings of his friend. The Das Lied with Mildred Miller and Ernst Haefliger is not to be missed.
