I had a look at the corner of my office diary this morning, and noted it was a Bank Holiday in RoI today! My envious thoughts turned to you boys at home, listening to your music.... :-)

yes, it is, Fergus... these songs are particularly accessible and enjoyable, and Christopher Maltman is a pleasing baritone...

Thank you for that Jared. I was not aware of these songs so I had to look them up. I see that they were originally written for voice and piano and later a number of them were orchestrated by Vaughan Williams and the balance orchestrated later by a colleague. I may check them out at some stage and will invariably look to YouTube first.

I am a fan of Zinman but I was never really convinced by that interpretation; perhaps because it had a different "feel" to most M1s that I own. I would be curious to know what a multiple M1 owner thinks Seán.

Hi Fergus, I haven't listened to it for such a long time and when I did so yesterday I quite enjoyed it. The production values are superb, there is a lovely clean sound from the orchestra but I find the approach rather sterile and unmoving but it does hold my attention. I will listen to it again later today. The fact that it is a couple of years since I last played it probably speaks volumes of how I rate it compared to the rest of the Titan's in my collection.

I am curious about their Beethoven cycle but I better not go there yet. If I restart buying Beethoven sets I won't know when and where to stop.

I rate it as almost as good as the von Karajan 1963 cycle Sean....well worth hearing!!!
