Another thing to bear in mind Jared is that I use the Beethoven symphonies as a sounding board, literally. If there is a new orchestra and/or conductor that I might be interested in checking out in detail I always look to see if the have a LvB symphonic cycle credited to them and if so I will buy it to see how they handle this music. Because I am very familiar with the music I do not concentrate on it but rather can focus on the interpretation and the playing etc.

I seam to have touched a nerve over my comments however, which I didn't mean to... the ;-) at the end of my sentence suggests that it was meant in a light-hearted way and not as a criticism. I only really have a maximum of three versions of anything (very few things actually), two of works I like and one of everything else, so I probably would never benefit from comparative listening in the same way you can.
