Returning headphones to Amazon

Post by Frankie Lee »

Hi guys. I bought a pair of AKG 550's last week. They're awesome - really comfortable and amazing detail. Really happy with them in that regard. My only problem is they're quite heavy to wear for work and they don't block out sound as much as I'd like.

I'm wondering if Amazon will take them back now though. I was very careful unpacking them. The packaging is perfect but I did have to cut through the various stickers at the edges.

Anyone had experience with this sort of thing? I've never returned anything to Amazon before.

Hi Frankie,

Amazon gives you a 30 day window to return items if you are not happy - they implement an extension to the statutory cooling off period, offered on all goods purchased from a business via distance selling (ie, on a website in this case). The only caveat is that, if you change your mind (too heavy, doesn't fit, don't like the colour), then you would be expected to pay the return delivery charges. This page on their website should be all you need:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/custome ... eId=502564

Hope this helps.

Marcus
I have a switch in my apartment but it doesn't do anything. Every once in a while, I turn it on and off. One day I got a call from a woman in Austria... She said "Cut it out will you!"

Thanks for that clarification. I went through that stuff but didn't catch that. My concern is that they say you can only return unopened things. I guess I could send it back - worst case they presumably would just send it back to me.

Anyway, after another day with the 550's I'm not sure I could part with them now. The sound is just heavenly.

You have the right to open and examine the goods, that's one advantage of the distance selling cool off, as you are unable to check it over before hand to make sure it's what you want. It gives you the same experience as browsing a high street shop, picking up a product and trying it out.
There are certain items that can be called out as non-returnable under distance selling, if the seals have been broken. Things like computer software - as there is no advantage in examining the physical disk when you get it home. Once the software is loaded, it becomes registered and often cannot be used again on the same activation method, so it is effectively rendered useless to someone else.

So my suggestion would be (if you decide to return it of course - it sounds like it's growing on you), pack it back as well as you can as using the original packaging and even the retailer packaging it came in if you have it, and send it back, following the instructions for returning on their website.
