The new Devialet range

Post by Diapason »

I mentioned this in the Munich thread, but I thought I might start a new one.

Any time I've heard the Devialet D-Premier I've been very impressed, but it was far beyond my means. Having recently said that I'd never sell my Graafs, I see Devialet have decided to test that theory with a new, significantly less expensive range.

This is the first thing to turn my audiophile head in quite a while. The added carrot is that before September, you can get the optional streaming software* for an extra €1 (it usually costs €1000). I'll definitely have to get my hands on this for a trial at some stage.

So what do we think? Game-changer, or just meh?

*Edit: or is it hardware? Must read more carefully.

Game changer. Any time I heard the Devialet I wanted one. Superb sound but, as you say, too expensive. At the sort of money they're now quoting it's within reach.

It certainly looks a very elegant solution. I've never heard one properly but if it's as good as people are saying then it *might* tempt me back into hifi sooner than planned.
All I'd need then is a pair of speakers and that shouldnt be too difficult....right?

I'd be more curious about the Audioplans to be honest as I've heard good things about them. Whereas the Cremonas I had didnt do anything wrong, I just never loved them.

You need some Kharmas. Just make sure the drivers are screwed in.

Joking aside, those Audioplans are indeed meant to be great.

those speakers are great but a tad pricey. Brian O has a pair (Derek had them for a while) and I'd be a happy bunny with them in my room.

Ditto on the Audioplan Kontrasts.

I had a good listen to the Devialet at the last Cloney show and it was very impressive indeed.

It looks like a beautiful solution and reviews are all positive.
And I think it's stunning visually.

But:
1_ would it cure the bug that most of us suffer from ? i.e. Repetitive upgraditis combined with need for boxes and wires
2_Seems to be digital through and through and even processes phono stage input to digital.
Being a 300B SET and, recently, a 211 SET lover I wonder if it wouldn't sound a bit harsh ? Is it musical, really ? That's subjective, I know.

At the moment I feel that the Classé CP 800 does a lot as a digital processor but with the analogue side intact when required.
It's extremely neutral and revealing, and quiet, so gives great choice of tone sound style [?] and texture with power amps of tube or SS variety.

Never heard a Devialet. Interested to here yours's views on these Q's.

BTW, what speakers did anybody here the Devialet with ?
