Mains conditioners

Post by tony »

Spoke with Fergus today and conditioners came up, in my case it was not related to hair. I have a basic Tacima cs929 got it off ebay. €40 approx. I thought it made a difference for a tiny outlay. Matt suggested one by a chinese company called yaqin a ml1000 circa €80. Budget items compared to some of the kit around. Be curious to here if there are any other suggestions in the BUDGET price range that are considered either realy or imaginary to have a dramatic effect.
PS Everyone should have a audio puccini remote control even if only used as a paper weight. I never thought that I would be impressed by a remote control that only seems to have volume up or down.

Tony was over in my home yesterday afternoon for a few hours and from the moment that I handed him the remote control until he left I don't think that it actually left his hands. He had to be searched as he was leaving....he became quite attached to it!!!!

I admit I have no experience with Mains conditioners. But I have a few thoughts about them.

If your electricity supply is already good quality then there might not be much point in obtaining one. If on the other hand you are aware of a quality problem then it could be a worthwhile investment for not much outlay. But again, are we talking about the Rolls Royce of conditioners or the mini version. There must be different designs out there and surely as one goes up in price the better the end result.

On another point as more and more wind generators and micro gen devices get connected to the grid quality issues might come up. Previously your electricity supply might have been perfectly o.k. but now that the fellow down the street has a micro gen device the quality of your power might be compromised a touch. I believe the ESB or Eirgrid have to vet your system before you feed power into the grid. You have to meet certain quality standards.

So the picture is slowly changing. But if one was to obtain a good conditioner for 80E or there abouts, then it could be money well spent. After all 80E is not going to break the bank.

If electrical quality becomes a issue in the future, then we might all be investing in these devices!!

I'd start with the cheapest aspecst first. Plugs, cables, sockets etc. When you see the prices of "serious" mains conditioners it actually makes more sense to reiwire the room. More by luck than design I have a dedicated ring for the hifi and I've found it hard to improve on with better cables, conditioners or whatever. I'm assuming that's because it's clean to begin with.
