Build a dedicated Audio PC
Re: Build a dedicated Audio PC
Nige can you post a picture of the brick winner in the sound stakes. I am getting a bit confused at this stage what power supplies are being used.

Re: Build a dedicated Audio PC
No worries Tony i confuse my self sometimes especially with the comparison of these power supplies. its a lot of plugging in and out, restarts etc
http://www.maplin.co.uk/13.8v-regulated ... -units-231
7A 13.8V DC PSU
XM21X
its not exactly pretty, but its interesting to hear whats affecting the sound
im also using one of these to power usb:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/ac-dc-multi-vol ... pply-46107
ive moved the external power to usb to the dac instead of the windows to go stick, im getting more improvement that way.
i think there might be a little more to get by using external power to usb windows to go/ssd
individually these power supplies don't make much difference but together its quite noticeable
how im going to tidy it all up will be a job in itself.
played a couple in ultrastream with 4 gb ram installed it was well fit to play it but it effected the SQ negatively loss in dynamics was most noticeable. i know ive probably said it before but 8 gb or more would be needed for optimum results, its just something i noticed

Re: Build a dedicated Audio PC
Ok thanks Nige. I have the small power supply for the JKCIUNAS Dac. Not too bothered if the battery charger looking brick looks terrible if it does the job well. I will have to wait for a meet up to see this W2Go and SSD and USB powered separately to see how it is all hanging together and if it works.

externally powered operating system on usb only made a small difference but i suppose everything counts.

Re: Build a dedicated Audio PC
Yes Fran sound advice will stay lurking for the moment. I have the tonyzuma parts picked out but will wait until I have seen a demo of what is being trialed here.
Nige the ciunas is working out fine. Is it the best dac in the world probably not.Is it giving great performance in relation to its price most definitely.
The only products I have come across that seem to better it cost €10k. They aint beating it by €9.5k. I know that is just a crude comparison but
it really is a great piece of kit. Hopefully you get to hear the meitner and others against it and it will help make your mind up.

Re: Build a dedicated Audio PC
I ordered the Teddy Pardo at the weekend, it is a bit of a gamble on having enough juice but another item for the mix to see if it will work and add anything.
If it has not arrived in time for the get together then no problem.

john im only getting round to this second WTG usb3 stick now.jkeny wrote:I discovered that this procedure works for non-certified USB3 sticks - a VHD (Virtual Hard drive) - directions easy & found here: http://agnipulse.com/2012/11/windows-to ... ndows-7-8/nige2000 wrote: I failed on the non certified usb3 stick and gave up was giving me a pain in the head
Life's too short
i was following the instructions on your link, only thing i noticed odd was it was very slow took half hour to create virtual drive and god knows how long to install as i left it for 2.5 hrs.
now when i waited for to first boot for a half hour then gave up, i reckoned this stick wasn't going to be a runner at all, as the read/write speeds were awful.
think its my stick must revert to usb 2 speeds unless its plugged into a operating system to gain usb3 speeds, i scrapped the idea on this stick. (took me less than 10 min to install my kingston usb3)
do you think i missed anything on this?
On the upside i started to use it as music storage think is another improvement, operating system on one usb3 stick and storage on another usb.
