Disturbed at finding my old scrap P4 had better latency figures than my AudioPC, I uninstalled the AudioPC NVidia Display driver , got the latency to improve and was able to bring Ultrasize down to around 110 from 160. This PC works headless with display plugged out but even then the driver was affecting performance. I prefer the sound at 160 but that's another story.

Nige, yes I like around 160 and with the improved latency in the AudioPC it means I'm a bit away from the limit of around 110, so it's perhaps more stable. The latency figures I was getting on DPC were around 5-600 on the P4 Streamer and around 1000 on the AudioPC, but before the removal of Nvidia I was getting red spikes around 1500 to 2000 on the AudioPC, this didn't prevent it operating Ultrastream down to around 160 but at least now it's a bit more capable. BTW both machines are much worse than Tony's laptops.

i was getting worried some guys on other forums were looking for latency of 05-45. cant see it as been a essential requirement

didnt say there was anything wrong with tonys laptops, i just thought when he had good modern equipment he should have been safe from these network/jplay issues

Nige , my thinking on Tony's laptops is the same as yours, they're both good modern gear and should be much more likely to handle Ultrastream.

Hooray my third family laptop is a samsung. I think there is an issue with laptop nic cards for whatever reason. It will become obvious when jplay release the next version to all. It will need to be addressed at some point.

Looks like you could be hitting post 1,000 tomorrow Tony and hopefully the new JPlay 5.1 going out tonight/this morning works with some of your laptops.

So much for all our talk recently of all these upgrades slowing down for a while so we can catch a breath and take stock...feels like we are on a roller coaster that is speeding up.

Could be doing worse things though on these cold winter days!!

Just checked the league table Pearse, Will have to start posting like crazy to catch Fergus! No I don't US to work I dont believe they will have addressed that yet. If it is a jplay issue it will become apparent after the release. Your right nobody expected the leaps that have occurred over the last year. Not sure what forum I saw it on but a guy was quoting a friend involved in a highend hifi import business shocked at what jplay was producing. It seems under the radar but it is no doubt ground breaking the improvements in dac and software development.

I installed 5.1 this evening and am listening now as I speak. It all installed smoothly and I could find the audioPC no problem across the network. I really find that a wired solution is the only way to go, the reliability is just superior for a demanding task like jplay.

I'm running ultrastream at the moment, and pretty much with the stock values. On the beta versions I had to reduce Xtream size to 400 since my audioPC is a bit low on ram. Currently Ultra size is 250 and drive buffer 0.

How are the rest of you getting on with the update?!

********************************************************
Something I have noticed on jplay and here - everybody is in a rush to the lowest ultrasize they can get, but then subsequently say it sounds better at some higher figure!

Is it madness to be chasing the lowest latency figure available?
