I have a cutting somewhere about Split missing the number one spot due to insufficient copies being pressed or something? Have you heard any of their live stuff? Live At Leeds is something else entirely :) And yes Tony is a fine, fine player. Would have loved to have seen them on TOTP's doing Cherry Red. It'd never be on YT, now would it?

Very precious double vinyl edition on Psycho including the complete Live At Leeds :) Totally agree with the review snippet below....








"The famous Leeds concert from 1971 (when they supported the Stones) is an amazing document and the endless "Still A Fool" has many unbelievable moments. The Groundhogs' free-form improvisations are so far from many pointless jams of the era: they're always surprising and engaging, sometimes creating a real song-structure on the spot. Tony McPhee's sound is unique stretching his guitar to the very limit with distortion & compression and a personal phrasing. The welcome surprise is the inclusion of the excellent & raw segments of the Stockholm gig from 1976. Different line-ups but usual stunning performances. Here's definitely one of the best live albums in rock you can get!"




Just thought I'd include this image of a classic band pose I'd never seen before with it's attendant track listing from the box set which obviously includes their first five albums....Would give anything to see the booklet :) Only €15.44 from Amazon? Oh just checked, the booklet is nothing to write home about and the five albums are on 3 CDs with hopeless reproductions of the original sleeves. Still at that price it would be churlish to complain....

Another new band to add to my shelf. A thrilling melting pot of Creedence, John Lee Hooker, Z Z Top, Stones and possibly Capt. Beefheart influences with a three pronged guitar attack of a decidedly swampy nature. Best I've heard in a looooong while :)

I saw that boxed set in Tower for €9.99 (I think) and that started me rummaging at home for the crackly old vinyl. €9.99 for any five albums is good, when they're as good as these five it's near a steal.

This is just a nice picture of Ry Cooder - but the album I'm listening to is one I think I downloaded from Wolfgangs Vault. Its a "live" recording from the Record Plant in 1974 and was obviously intended for radio broadcast.

Anyway, the SQ is only fantastic, and the music is Ry at his prime. Only $5 for the download:
