Meets

Post by sebna »

Hi,

My first post it is, so hello everybody !

I am wondering if there are any meet ups organized once per while to have a go on cup of tea ;) and our lovely hardware in great atmosphere?

I am into headphones (beginning the adventure) and music of course and would love to hear some other gear, not only from HP world.

Could not find a thread about it so thought maybe it is time to ask.

Thanks,
seb

Hi Sebna & welcome to the forum.

Meet ups do happen every now and then - but there are no "organised" ones as such - really just a bunch of fellas around to each others houses when the missus/SO in question is away!!

Keep an eye on the forum - and you will see it mentioned every now and then. There aren't many HP users - but you will mainly find things like the akg701 and HD650 and the odd stax setup. I have gone through a number of amps, and ended up with a DIY valve amp that I use a bit now and then..... its more and more popular all the time though....

I just saw this and was about to put up a thread about meets. I was chatting to Ivor in a very nice wine shop yesterday about the Danish obsession with hifi: the fact that there are a good few clubs scattered around Denmark where the members would have regular meets in club houses etc. This of course is due to the history and tradition of "foreninger" (translates to clubs or associations) and the fact the state will pay a proportion of the cost in running any such club.

So we thought we should have a club here in Ireland. And of course we already have the "club" right here but the "club house" is an entirely different matter! And I am not sure the Irish state will give us much financial support either... ;)

Would there be any interest in more regular meets? Could be monthly, bi-monthly... whatever people think? I would be happy to facilitate meets here in Bray and maybe others who have the space could host if they want to?

I would agree great idea. When I first got involved in buying gear again a few years ago I knew nobody and it took awhile to get to meet people. It can be daunting for people especially when a few of the guys know each other so well.

Anything like this helps people when choosing hifi and it is great to meet new people interested in music etc.

very few of the guys were friends before these forums so nobody should feel intimidated at all. Given that we didn't know each other at all until a few years back it's surprising how well we all get on and I don't think any of us take that for granted. For any 'newbies' thinking of coming along to a meet be aware that we are a friendly bunch and you'll be relaxed and atin' biscuits in no time!

We should keep an eye out for any "NAMAed" halls or buildings.

Hi Guys,

Following a telephone conversation with Fran last week discussing this particular topic, after it was first mentioned on the forum.
Both Jonathan and myself and The Listening Suite, as members of the forum would like to offer the Listening Suite as a proposed meeting place, one evening every month or every two months, whatever is in favour.
I suppose we would need to decide what day of the week would be convenient for everyone and if the meetings should be held at the beginning or end of every month or two months.
If this idea would in favour with everyone please do let us know.

Jonathan Ford, David Browne

That's fantastic. Will never be able to afford avantegarde speakers now I will be able to listen to them every month or two Hooray!!

Seriously really nice gesture and great idea. The location is great and the room is fantastic. I would suggest if it is going ahead that you aim for once every 2 months. That way it might just happen and continue on a reasonably regular basis.
