Can someone explain what exactly is the purpose of the threaded spikes that came with my speakers?
I don't see the advantage of point loading the floor as the base on the unit is more than adequate to spread the weight. Obviously I'm missing something here, enlightenment would be appreciated. Thanks!
So what do i do with the threaded spikes?

Ah spikes! Why don't you try them first, with and without? Anyway their purpose is to isolate the speakers a bit which should give a tighter more cohesive sound. For what it's worth I never use them on my own floorstanders even though I'm supposed to! And wooden floors an' all plus a basement four foot deep beneath them! Feel free to experiment and when you're satisfied sit back and enjoy :) How are you getting on with the Tritons? I'm guessing the bass might be a bit much even though it can be adjusted. Very lucky that you have that option too! Let us know how you get on....Oh I forgot to say that spikes prevent the speaker from being easily toppled especially if you have kids!MooseTrackz wrote:Can someone explain what exactly is the purpose of the threaded spikes that came with my speakers?

Well that's the last thing you want to do! All the bass will go into the floor and become bloated. The floor essentially becomes a resonating sound-board. Try the spikes. You should hear a more defined bass (and other frequencies). If you have wooden floors try a 1c coin under each spike to both protect the floor and give a cleaner contact. The idea is to isolate the speakers from the floor.MooseTrackz wrote: I don't see the advantage of point loading the floor as the base on the unit is more than adequate to spread the weight.
I don't know how Dermot is getting away with unspiked speakers on the roof of his dungeon but if it works ... it works!

Would you believe Ivor I've went back and forth over the years and the spikes just didn't do it for me no matter what the hamster in my head was telling me :) So now anytime I get the urge to spike them yet again I have a little note inside the spike bag telling me I'm wasting my time :))))Ivor wrote:Well that's the last thing you want to do! Anyway the Tritons go down way lower than mine - about 20 Hz or so - so spiking would make more sense and should improve the sound no end.....The coin is a great idea too! When I moved here first I actually used wood screws screwed to the floor with the spikes resting on top! Took me almost four months of experimentation to get the loudspeaker's position and everything else right! I'll never move house again!

I'm starting to get a bit of sense on this road to enlightenment, the bass is definitely tighter and well defined and the muddiness that was slipping in occasionally on some tracks has disappeared. Thanks for the coin trick! Those wee spikes would play havoc with the wood floor for sure, they also make it easier to reposition the speakers without herculean effort.
Cheers Gentleman, your explanations are greatly appreciated!

It's more of a slippery slope than a road but I'm delighted you heard a nice difference. 8 cent well spent!MooseTrackz wrote:I'm starting to get a bit of sense on this road to enlightenment,
