Noticed your postings on jplay forum Pearse. This looks very interesting. The setup seems like more spend. I think I will let you and Ken at it until it is sorted.
My understanding is a laptop connected to the jkdac32 or meitner in some cases. Lan cable to a PC that contains the music/files. Jplay mini running on the laptop or PC or both? Do you select music files from the remote PC and play over the network cable. I see mention of running in hibernate and being able to stop and start at will.
In my case laptop and PC. Laptop is i3/6 or 8gb ram and PC is i3/4g. Is this sufficient to work?
When is the step 1,2 3 and diagrams with photos being published?

Well done Pearse, I think you must be one of the first worldwide to crack this one, I'm still struggling here. The laptop can see the MusicPC ' s shared folders but the Jplay control panel cannot see the MusicPC. I don't know if there's a setting I'm overlooking but I'll plough on. It's easy to switch back to V4.3 but not yet.
I think you're right about using Hibernate, there's a major improvement with it.

It probably was a little easier for me to set up as i have been using the home router for transporting music around the house for several years now.
Basically what you need for JPlay to work well is a home wireless router which you use for your internet and iPhones etc.
A good dedicated PC or laptop with wireless or lan connection to the home router with nothing on it except win 7 or win 8 and load the new JPlay on it and thats all, make sure to install as administrator.
Click on JPlay settings file after installation and reboot, then go to taskbar near clock to find JPlay settings and double click to open and set as you need, here you make sure your DAC is seen by toggling through selections in "Playing via" by clicking on the bar next to it. Same with all the other settings and that is all you do there.

On the other PC where you have your music and is already connected to your hoime wireless for internet browsing etc. you also install JPlay with Admin privelages (right click and "Run as Administrator") during installation.
Again Click on JPlay settings file after installation and reboot, then go to taskbar near clock to find JPlay settings and double click to open and set as you need, here you make sure your other computer connected to the DAC is seen under "Audio PC" you may have to toggle through this to find it.
You might need to then toggle through "Playing via" to select you dac as well. (Here on this settings panel is where you set Hibernate)

After that whether you use JRiver or Foobar follow the instructions to pick up JPlay for playback and enjoy.

Hope this helps, feel free to give me a call on 0863113056 for help if needed.

Thanks Pearse, I finally got it all working, thanks to a remote support operation by Josef(Jplay). He adjusted some telnet setting in my old crappy Vista laptop and made a new Jplay settings file for me while he was online. The support is priceless. My music PC is excellent but the laptop is NFG. Overall it's probably easy enough with new gear but a nightmare with ancient laptops.

The quality is wonderful, I'm playing everything on Xtream,DirectLink and Hibernate and the sound is natural with more pronounced and deeper bass. I haven't had remote control for about 2 years now so it's interesting to have my entire music collection at my fingertips.

Well is it safe to download beta version of jplay and use on one machine as per usual? Are there any special settings to avoid. And most importantly is there an improvement using it this way?

Tony, yes it will run fine on one machine. I went back to one machine although the sound on 2 machines was excellent but I find the sound on one machine is fine too. There's a big improvement on one machine going from V4.3a to V5 Beta. This is still a beta version and there will be a Jplay Mini when it's released and Hibernate also. Right now you can use any player which can handle ASIO like Jriver or Foobar. You can use the latest Foobar or a specific older version and you'll find the links on the Jplay forum or in the mail with the V5 Beta release. You cannot run Hibernate on one machine at present.

Thanks Ken.Ok without buying jriver it will not work.Never used foobar.I think I will wait until it is released.Doesn't sound as if the new version on 2 pc's is the killer then yet? I still can't get full hibernate to work on my laptop on v4.3(Maybe I will try 4.3a) if playing more than 2 tracks.

Foobar is free and it' simple to set up. If you download the latest version and install it. Then drop the foo_out_asio component into the components folder, double click it to install and Bob's your uncle. Then run Jplay settings and adjust the Jplay parameters you want. Simples.. I think the 2 pc version is very good too and you can have both.

Thats ok Ken but am I missing something?.Jplaymini in hibernate has always gave best returns why use v5 with foobar?
I think you are also saying there isn't a massive difference currently between 2 pc's and 1. Pearse reported otherwise but maybe his machines are very high spec.

Foobar is temporary until new Jplay mini. Any ASIO player will work especially on 2PC. 2PC has Hibernate and I think it's better to have it. For me , currently best sound is 2PC in Hibernate. The designer,Marcin, prefers single PC with no network and using Foobar. If you use 2PC you still need something like Foobar. I haven't hears Pearse's views on V5 on single PC.

Give it a try and see for yourself or hop on your bicycle down to Trim :)
