What are you listening to?

I don't think she gets the credit she deserves.... Could it be because she's pretty? Call her Nigel and have a nice painting on the front cover and I'll wager the reviews would have been better...!!!
Brass Bands are all very well in their place -

funnily enough, I've just been listening to all three of those works this morning, from this peerless box set:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Brahms-Works-So ... 227&sr=1-1
and incidentally, £18 is about the cheapest I've ever seen it... ;-)

^^ I bet that's a lovely disk, Fergus... Summerley's EM with the Oxford Canerata is some of the finest output from the Naxos label imho...
today, I am working my way through this delightful boxset, so I won't post the cover any more!:

Yes it is Jared....as you know I hold Summerly in high regard. His music making is simple but good....just the job!

Re: What are you listening to?
^^ how are you getting on with Martinu, Fergus?
I have to say, I struggled with his musical language, so have set it aside for a later date. I know you have persevered a bit with Nielsen 6 of late; another work I have always found difficult to access... has repeated listening to either of these later sets of symphonies, born fruit for you?

Mendelssohn: Symph No.2 'Hymn of Praise'
BBC NOW/ Richard Hickox (Live)
another very fine work which has regrettably been collecting dust on my shelf, of late....
